Job description

A Plasma Table Plate/Pipe Operator sets up, programs, and operates CNC plasma cutting machines to cut steel plates and pipes based on blueprints, drawings, and work orders. This role involves managing material handling (often with cranes/forklifts), ensuring precise cuts using CAD/nesting software, and performing routine maintenance on the machine
Core Responsibilities
  • Machine Operation: Startup, shutdown, and operation of CNC plasma and oxy-fuel tables to cut metal materials.
  • Plate & Pipe Processing: Cutting, shaping, and beveling structural steel plate and pipe, including using specialized machinery like Dragon Pipe Cutters.
  • Programming & Software: Using nesting software (e.g., Pro Nest, AutoCAD) to transfer programs to the host computer, optimize material usage, and modify programs.
  • Material Handling: Loading and unloading large, heavy metal sheets and pipes onto the table using overhead cranes or forklifts.
  • Quality Control: Measuring parts with tools like tape measures, calipers, and micrometers to ensure accuracy against technical drawings.
  • Maintenance: Performing daily, weekly, or monthly preventive maintenance, such as checking nozzle sizes, gas pressures, and cleaning the table

  • Requirements
    • Experience: Previous experience operating CNC plasma, laser, or oxy-fuel burning tables is usually required.
    • Technical Skills: Ability to read blueprints, interpret engineering drawings, and understand technical nesting layouts.
    • Physical Strength: Ability to lift heavy materials and work in a manufacturing environment (potentially noisy/hot).
    • Software Knowledge: Familiarity with CNC control interfaces and CAD software.
