Job description

Job Summary:
Lam Research is dedicated to excellence in the design and engineering of etch and deposition products for the semiconductor industry. The Software Computational Engineer will focus on solving semiconductor fabrication challenges through mathematical modeling, computational algorithms, and software development in various programming languages.
Responsibilities:
• Understanding of the fundamental physical, chemical, electromagnetic phenomenon and their interactions at the atomic to chamber scales
• Development of mathematical models governing the fluid flow, gas-phase and surface chemical reactions, electromagnetic effects, and numerous processes driving semiconductor plasma etch and deposition processes
• Computational algorithms, applied mathematics, and numerical methods applied to solving systems of linear and partial-differential equations arising from the aforementioned models
• Completes own role independently or with minimal supervision
• A seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of area of specialization
• Resolves a wide range of issues in creative ways
• This job is the fully qualified, career oriented, journey-level position
• Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors
• Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions
• Networks with senior internal and external personnel in own area of expertise
• Operates independently, recognizing when consultation is required
• Working under general direction from manager, defines own objectives.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Understanding of the fundamental physical, chemical, electromagnetic phenomenon and their interactions at the atomic to chamber scales
• Development of mathematical models governing the fluid flow, gas-phase and surface chemical reactions, electromagnetic effects, and numerous processes driving semiconductor plasma etch and deposition processes
• Computational algorithms, applied mathematics, and numerical methods applied to solving systems of linear and partial-differential equations arising from the aforementioned models
• Software development skills including one or more programming languages such as C++, Python, Matlab, etc.
• Experience building large-scale, high-performance, and scalable software for CPU and GPGPU computing
• Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent work experience
