Position Summary

Burn Table Operators must comply with all safety guidelines and have an eye for detail and great mechanical aptitude. This position is responsible for operating CNC burning machines to complete customer orders. In addition, the Operator is responsible for performing skilled work in the burn department by setting, operating and maintaining machinery.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to:

• Plasma or Oxygen gas to cut steel to customer specifications, utilizing CNC controlled

machines

• Read, interpret and clearly understand work order specifications and set up

machines to produce material that meets quality and customer expectations

• Set up machines to optimize production efficiency and material yield without sacrificing

quality

• Flame cutting procedure oxygen and gas operation from 1 3/8” to 10” thick material

• CNC controlled plasma machine operation material from 1/8” to 1 1/4” thick material

• Inspect material grade using color coding system

• Take direction and guidance from Supervisors and Shift Leads; follow cutting practices

and safe machine operation

• Ensure cut quality and tolerances using a tape measure

• Operate basic measuring equipment (tape measure and calipers)

• Troubleshoot equipment and make basic adjustments

• Safely operate material handling equipment (forklift & overhead crane)

• Record and perform all Pre and Post shift preventative maintenance procedures

• Maintain and keep cutting surface in good order

• Follow all safety rules and practices

• Other duties and responsibilities assigned

Qualifications and Requirements

• High school diploma or GED; certificate or diploma in engineering or relevant discipline

is a plus

• Prior cutting machine (plasma, laser, or oxy) experience is helpful

• Mechanical aptitude and quality workmanship

• Ability to read a tape measure

• Strong work ethic and punctuality

• Good communication with other team members

• Ability to work overtime, at times on short notice

• 1-3 years’ experience of operating basic CNC Machinery

Work Environment and Physical Demands

This position operates in a manufacturing shop environment. Exposure to noise, chemicals, and materials consistent with a manufacturing environment is constant. This is a physically demanding position requiring the physical strength to lift materials up to 50lbs and endure prolonged standing.
