Plant Manager – Springfield, IL

About the Opportunity Our client, a national construction products manufacturer, is seeking an experienced Plant Manager to lead a high-performing manufacturing facility in Springfield, IL. This role is responsible for driving operational excellence, developing teams, and ensuring best-in-class safety, quality, and production performance.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of 40–50 employees, fostering a culture of accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement
  • Oversee hiring, training, performance management, and succession planning to build a strong, technically capable workforce

Operations Management

  • Direct all aspects of plant operations from raw material intake through production and final shipment
  • Optimize the use of equipment, personnel, and processes to maximize efficiency, quality, and output while controlling costs

Safety & Compliance

  • Champion a safety-first culture by implementing and maintaining robust safety programs and procedures
  • Ensure full compliance with all regulatory requirements, including environmental and stormwater management standards

Cross-Functional Communication

  • Provide clear direction across key functions including production scheduling, inventory control, order processing, administration, and logistics
  • Communicate policies, priorities, and performance expectations effectively across the organization

Technical & Operational Expertise

  • Maintain a strong understanding of manufacturing processes, equipment, and production methodologies
  • Troubleshoot operational challenges and drive continuous improvement initiatives

Performance & Financial Management

  • Monitor and analyze key performance indicators across safety, quality, delivery, cost, and inventory
  • Drive initiatives that improve operational performance and support profitability goals

Customer & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Partner with internal teams and external customers to align specifications, timelines, pricing, and delivery requirements
  • Ensure high-quality product output that meets customer expectations and business objectives

Quality & Inventory Control

  • Ensure all quality standards and procedures are followed and properly documented
  • Maintain optimal inventory levels to meet market demand while minimizing excess and waste

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • 5+ years of leadership experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with plastics or pipe extrusion processes (PVC, CPVC, HDPE) strongly preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ERP systems
  • Broad business acumen across operations, safety, quality, finance, and supply chain
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Results-driven leader with a hands-on approach and continuous improvement mindset
