Area Plant Manager Job Description:

Position Summary:ย 
Primary responsibilities are to oversee the operation and maintenance of multiple concrete batch plants, equipment and trucks in good working condition. He will work with other supervisors and managers to expedite production and dependable delivery of quality concrete to job sites. He will supervise and ensure that all plant personnel are properly trained and adhering to all safety, environmental, maintenance and regulatory requirements. He will monitor raw material inventories and concrete for quality and quantity.
Duties and Responsibilities:ย 
  • Ensure the opening and closing of plant facilities according to company policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Supervise and ensure that assistant plant managers, batch plant operators, drivers, loader operators, and yard workers are properly trained and adhering to all company, safety, environmental, maintenance and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee plant maintenance including lubrication schedule, spill clean-up, dust collector maintenance, silo clean-up, yard and batch house general housekeeping.
  • Work with dispatch, other area or plant managers, shop foreman and operations manager to expedite production and dependable delivery of quality concrete to job sites. ย 
  • Make regular plant inspections to look and listen for plant problems.
  • Ensure that daily inspections of hoppers, plants, conveyors and other equipment are performed. Look and listen for any problems. Ensure that repairs are made for any equipment problems or safety issues in a timely manner to prevent accidents or quality control issues.
  • Give directions and special instructions to drivers.
  • Monitor raw material inventories for quantities and quality to meet industry standards.ย 
  • Monitor baghouse and dust collectors for emissions.
  • Ensure that inspections, calibrations, recordkeeping are performed correctly and up to date including TCEQ, TxDOT, OSHA, maintenance and inventory.
  • Be proficient in using the batch and dispatch programs and plan for succession with appropriate training and hiring if necessary.
  • Supervise and provide leadership to organize plant personnel including assistant plant managers, batch plant operators, yard workers, loader operators, drivers and dispatchers.
  • Conduct regular safety meetings and provide a positive working environment.
  • Track employee attendance and coordinate PTO, FMLA, and unpaid time off with the office manager to avoid understaffing.
  • Complete company documentation of HR issues according to company policy book and other required documentation in a timely manner.
  • Spot check or ensure that qualified personnel monitor concrete loads for quality control.
  • Ensure that the batch plant operators have the plant ready, correct materials are in bins and cement inventories are adequately scheduled for the next day.
  • Ensure that batch plant operators arrive 30 minutes prior to drivers to open plant.
  • Ensure that end of the day procedures including ticket organization, computer and plant shut down are performed.
  • Communicate with dispatcher to verify jobs status, mix designs for projects are correct for next day or ensure that batch plant operators have performed this.
  • Communicate with customers to understand their requirements and address their concerns. Work with sales and customer service representative to meet the customers requirements, maintain positive working relationships, and ensure on time delivery of concrete.
  • Follow environmental rules and procedures to ensure the batch plant and yard comply with federal, state, local laws and company requirements. Train assistant plant managers, batch plant-operators loader operators, drivers and yard workers to comply with the same.ย 
  • Operate plant equipment including front-end loader as needed and assist in training of loader and batch plant operators.
  • Work with the assistant plant managers, batch plant operators, loader operators and other personnel to improve efficiency, quality of concrete and solve problems.ย 
  • Understand and follow directions in English from supervisors as to required work.
  • Oversees the handling of returned concrete and manages waste piles
  • Be willing to perform and/or assist in other duties as needed to operate and maintain concrete batch plants, trucks and equipment in operation as assigned by management.
  • Adhere to all company, TCEQ, and OSHA rules and regulations at all times.
  • Meet or exceed company safety standards including use of PPE and uniforms.ย 

Qualifications Minimum Requirements:
  • Must possess a valid Texas issued driver's license (Preferably CDL).
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree preferably in construction related field.
  • Proven experience in ready-mix concrete production and plant management.
  • Leadership and supervisory skills with the ability to motivate and manage a diverse workforce.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of safety and environmental regulations and a commitment to enforcing them.
  • Familiar with maintenance and troubleshooting of concrete production equipment.
  • Solid Knowledge of concrete mix design, quality control procedures, and industry standards.

Physical Requirements and Environmental Demands:
  • Requires walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing to a significant degree.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, in order to communicate to employees/customers as well as function safely around heavy rolling equipment.
  • Must be able to pass a drug test.
  • Must be able to perform all job functions which include, but may not be limited to, pushing, turning, and/or pulling of controls.
  • Employee must be able to climb a ladder and work at heights up to 80 feet.
  • Continuous exposure to extreme heat, extreme cold, high noise, and working outdoors.
  • Must wear personal protective equipment when required.
  • Employee must be able to lift 100 lbs. sack 4 ยฝ Feet high.
  • Available to work a flexible schedule based on production need.ย
