Job description

ADM Plant Science Laboratory Technician - Eugene, OR
As a Plant Science Laboratory Technician, you will be a part of a collaborative project team to help maintain and develop new plant varieties for evaluation and potential commercialization. You will be heavily involved in the management and running of a small research and development plant tissue culture lab.
Duties Include:
  • Prepare plant tissue culture and microbiological media
  • Perform standard lab work and testing involving set-up, sample clean-up, and operation of basic lab equipment
  • Monitor cultures for contamination and apply appropriate remedial actions as needed
  • Test protocols and procedures for issue culture optimization
  • Conduct genetic experiments using molecular biology tools such as DNA/RNA isolation/purification, PCR, and gel electrophoresis
  • Perform lab procedures, following established protocols while maintaining a clean and organized work environment
  • Maintain inventory of plants as they are processed and grow with accurate records
  • Communicate updates and observations with appropriate colleagues
  • Commit to safety and teamwork and follow established protocols, complete required training and meetings, and maintain appropriate documentation
  • Maintain stocking and tracking of chemicals and consumable supplies
  • Provide assistance in the preparation and analysis of samples using lab instrumentation
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree and/or working experience in related area(s)
  • Knowledge about plant tissue culture techniques
  • Experience in plant/ microbiological preparation, working with autoclaves for sterilization
  • Computer literacy on frequently used office programs and databases
  • Knowledge of basic chemistry for the preparation of stock solutions, handling lab chemicals, and best practices for their use
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team while being collaborative in resolving problems
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks at one time
  • Ability to learn new and innovative processes quickly
  • Ability to use tact and diplomacy to maintain effective working relationships
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience in agricultural biotechnology or related industry is a plus.
