Position Information

Darwish Research Laboratory at Texas A&M AgriLife Research seeks a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to play a leading role in research development, research articles, and proposal writing in transcriptome and metabolomics research. The successful candidate will contribute significantly to expanding the laboratory's extramural funding portfolio through the preparation of competitive grant applications while conducting innovative research in transcriptomics, metabolomics, natural products chemistry, flavor science, and bioactive compound discovery.

Responsibilities:

  • Identifies funding opportunities and develops strategic research initiatives aligned with sponsor priorities.

  • Leads the preparation and submission of competitive proposals to federal agencies such as USDA, NIH, NSF, and DOE, as well as state agencies, commodity boards, foundations, and industry sponsors.

  • Writes proposal narratives, specific aims, research strategies, budgets, milestones, progress reports, and other sponsor-required documents; coordinates multidisciplinary proposal teams and facilitates collaborations among faculty, industry partners, and stakeholders; and contributes to the development of large-scale interdisciplinary funding initiatives.

  • Designs and conducts independent and collaborative genomics and metabolomics projects using advanced analytical platforms including LC-MS/MS, GC-MS, UHPLC-MS, HRMS, and HS-SPME-GC-MS.

  • Performs targeted and untargeted metabolite profiling.

  • Identifies and characterizes metabolites, volatile organic compounds, and bioactive compounds from plant, food, microbial, and human samples; develops and optimizes analytical methods; analyzes complex datasets using metabolomics and statistical software tools.

  • Disseminates research findings through peer-reviewed publications and presentations at national and international scientific conferences.

  • Mentors graduate and undergraduate students, assists with laboratory management and instrumentation oversight, fosters collaborations within Texas A&M University and with external partners, and supports the long-term growth of a nationally recognized metabolomics research program.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
