What is a planning intern?

Planning Interns are students or recent graduates who assist professional planners in areas such as urban planning, environmental planning, or community development. They support tasks like data collection, research, preparing reports, and helping with public outreach. The internship provides hands-on experience in planning processes, tools, and regulations. Planning Interns typically work under the supervision of experienced planners and contribute to real-world projects that impact communities.

What types of projects and tasks can a planning intern expect to work on during their internship?

As a Planning Intern, you can expect to be involved in a variety of projects such as researching zoning regulations, assisting with data collection for community development plans, preparing maps and presentations, and supporting public engagement efforts. Interns often work closely with experienced planners and may attend meetings with stakeholders or local government officials. This exposure helps build practical skills in urban planning and provides valuable insight into how planning teams collaborate to shape community growth and development.

Job description

We're looking for an organized, innovative, proactive intern to join the team behind BBYO International Convention (IC), one of the largest gatherings of Jewish teens in the world. The ideal candidate can work independently, is hardworking, and eager to learn. We will work with your college schedule!
Who We Are:
We're a global network of passionate professionals excited to make a difference in the lives of Jewish teens. We are the Jewish community's largest and fastest-growing pluralistic platform for reaching and inspiring Jewish teens, built on a century storied history. We support over 600 local, teen-led local chapters across more than 50 countries, at more than 100-weekend retreats during the school year and across a rapidly growing suite of global exchanges, campaigns, and movement initiatives all year round. Our team is strong, agile, creative, and inclusive. We are fast-paced, high-energy and results-driven, and we enjoy working together just as much as we believe in our mission.

You're excited by fast-paced environments and want to contribute to the success of a large-scale global event.
This is a paid internship compensated at $18.40 an hour, with 15-20 hours/week from September 2026 through March 2027

  • Demonstrated attention to detail and comfort working with data and administrative systems. Candidates may be asked to complete a brief skills exercise during the interview process.
  • Previous BBYO experience or similar youth/Jewish organization experience is a plus but not required.
  • Availability to work a minimum of 15-20 hours/week September 2026 through March 2027 with preference given to those available to work in BBYO's DC office one day/week
  • Available to work in-person at International Convention from Tuesday, February 9 - Monday, February 15, 2027.
  • Unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship.
