Schafer Industries is currently seeking an Engineering Intern for its Schafer Gear Works operation in Roscoe, IL.

Job Range:
$18 - $20 per hour
Job Summary:
The Engineering Intern's primary function will be to complete large-scale projects while providing assistance to Engineering, Quality, and the Machining Department's. To gain an understanding on how each department functions in relation to the other departments.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Perform Time Studies on the shop floor on cost sensitive and long running parts.
  • Lead organization effort for Schafer's ERP system, Visual.
  • Assist in cleaning up Schafer's file directory, organizing and eliminating folders and files as the team sees fit.
  • Assist in initial stages of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) implementation.
  • Participate in a takeoff lean event to launch said APQP.
  • Work with Engineering department to understand manufacturing routings, cost estimates, tooling purchasing.
  • Gain an overall understanding of each machining department such as Lathe, Mills, Grinding, Gear Grinding, Hob, and Debur.

Contribute to the Overall Effectiveness of the Company:
  • Channeling problems and/or complaints to appropriate person for resolution.
  • Supporting all Schafer policies and procedures.
  • Reporting to Supervisor when assignments cannot be completed.
  • Maintaining 5S program in the individual area.
  • Adopting the company's Lean Culture.
  • Performing other job-related duties as required or assigned.
  • Passing along vital information to the Supervisor for effectiveness of the system.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Pursuing a degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent required.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
  • Well-developed skills in multi-tasking and prioritizing.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and excel programs

Working Conditions:
  • Air conditioned/heated manufacturing facility with possible exposure to noise; dust; fumes; physical, chemical, and biohazards; solvents, oils, and detergents.
  • This job is to be performed at the designated facility 100% of the time unless directed otherwise by manager/supervisor.
