Job description

The Engineering and Planning Assistant supports the Engineering and Planning team by creating and maintaining technical drawings, work instructions, bills of material, production documentation, and other job-related data. This position uses engineering design programs, Microsoft Office applications, and other software systems to help ensure manufacturing information is accurate, complete, and available when needed.
This is a part-time position with a variable schedule of up to 30 hours per workweek. The position is not guaranteed a minimum number of hours, and scheduled hours may vary based on workload and business needs. Work is generally performed onsite during standard office hours according to a schedule established with the employee's supervisor.
This role is identified as requiring ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) compliance; therefore, qualified candidates must meet the definition of a U.S. Person (per EAR Part 772 and ITAR 120.15):

Essential Functions:

  • Creates and revises part drawings, bills of material, work instructions, graphics, and other technical documentation using engineering design and drafting software

  • Assists with the preparation and maintenance of production planning documents, inventory information, material requirements, and other job-specific data

  • Enters and maintains accurate information in applicable engineering, planning, and business systems

  • Reviews documentation for accuracy, completeness, formatting, and revision control

  • Organizes and maintains electronic files and technical records in accordance with established procedures

  • Communicates with Engineering, Planning, Production, Quality, and other departments to gather information and resolve documentation questions

  • Follows applicable quality requirements, work instructions, and established procedures

  • Follows all safety policies and procedures and consistently uses required personal protective equipment

  • Communicates effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, and follows verbal and written instructions

  • Completes other duties as required

  • Regular attendance onsite at the workplace is required

Work Experience
  • Relevant work experience is not required

  • Experience with engineering design or drafting software is preferred

  • Previous work experience in a machine shop, metal manufacturing, or aerospace manufacturing environment is preferred

  • Familiarity with CNC machining, production planning, inventory, procurement, or supply chain processes is preferred

Education
  • High school diploma or GED required

  • Coursework or technical training in engineering, engineering technology, drafting, manufacturing, machining, or a related field is preferred

Other Required Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to read and accurately interpret technical drawings, shop blueprints, sketches, and written instructions

  • Demonstrated proficiency in algebra, geometry, and basic trigonometry

  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and SharePoint

  • Ability to enter, organize, and maintain information accurately

  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple assignments

  • Ability to understand and accurately follow technical instructions

  • Strong organizational and documentation skills

  • Ability to identify missing, conflicting, or inaccurate information

  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with multiple departments

  • Familiarity with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing is preferred

  • Familiarity with aerospace manufacturing and quality standards, including AS9100, is preferred

Physical Demands and Work Environment
To perform the essential functions of the role, employees must be able to perform the following activities with or without reasonable accommodation:

Working Conditions
Work is performed in a combination of office and manufacturing shop environments where working conditions may vary significantly; the employee may be exposed to:
  • Excessive noise requiring hearing protection

  • Dust, smoke, mist, fumes, or vapors

  • Extreme temperatures

  • Hazardous equipment, including forklifts, hand tools, cranes or other lifting devices, and other equipment used in a machine shop environment

The use of PPE, including hearing protection, eye and hand protection, and safety footwear, is required.
