General Function
The Clinical Assistant Professor is a non-tenure track position with responsibilities for clinical education and service. Clinical faculty may participate in research or other scholarly or creative activities.
Description of Primary Duties
The Missouri State University Department of Finance, Economics and Risk Management anticipates a January 2027 or August 2027 opening for a non-tenure-track position as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Financial Planning.
Primary duties include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in our financial planning program, such as introduction to financial planning and estate planning; providing administrative support to the CFP Board Registered Financial Planning Program; developing and maintaining relationships with employers in the financial planning industry; supporting experiential learning opportunities for students; and contributing service to Missouri State University, the profession, and the broader community. The successful candidate may serve as Director of the CFP Board Registered Financial Planning Program and as faculty advisor for the FPA Student Association and BEAR Essentials.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
The minimum acceptable qualifications for the Clinical Assistant Professor rank are determined by the department and approved by the Dean and the Provost. Clinical Faculty must be qualified as defined by professional/discipline standards, have practical experience appropriate for the responsibilities assigned, and must maintain appropriate professional credentials.
Additional Qualifications
Minimum acceptable qualifications include: 1) a master's degree in business administration, finance, financial planning, or a closely related field, and 2) the Certified Financial Planner designation (CFP® certification) or the ability to successfully obtain the CFP® designation in one year from the hire date. The candidate must also have a minimum of five years of experience in financial planning or in a field that supports the financial planning process, such as estate planning or insurance.
