Job Description - Planning & Scheduling Lead:
Our client, a leading aerospace manufacturer, is seeking an experienced Planning & Scheduling Lead to oversee production planning activities at its East Granby manufacturing facility. This position is responsible for developing and managing the Master Production Schedule (MPS) while balancing customer demand, manufacturing capacity, material availability, and inventory objectives. The successful candidate will serve as the primary link between Operations, Supply Chain, Production, Sales, and Finance to ensure production plans support business objectives while maximizing on-time delivery and operational efficiency.
This is an excellent opportunity for a highly analytical planning professional who enjoys solving complex manufacturing challenges and driving continuous improvement within a fast-paced production environment.
Core Responsibilities:
- Develop, maintain, and optimize the Master Production Schedule (MPS) across multiple product families.
- Translate customer demand, forecasts, backlog, and inventory requirements into executable production schedules.
- Ensure production schedules are achievable based on labor, machine capacity, tooling availability, and material constraints.
- Maintain rolling production plans and planning horizons to support changing business requirements.
- Balance customer demand, inventory objectives, and manufacturing capacity while maximizing on-time delivery.
- Perform Rough-Cut Capacity Planning (RCCP) to evaluate production capabilities and identify capacity constraints.
- Analyze production bottlenecks and recommend solutions including overtime, schedule adjustments, resource balancing, or outsourcing.
- Partner closely with Operations, Procurement, Supply Chain, Production, Sales, and Finance to ensure alignment across the planning process.
- Monitor material shortages and proactively adjust production schedules to minimize disruption.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to production planning, schedule stability, inventory optimization, and forecast accuracy.
- Support Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) activities through planning analysis and reporting.
- Develop planning metrics, reports, and dashboards to support operational decision-making.
- Utilize ERP/MRP systems and planning tools to manage production schedules and material requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications - Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Business, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 7 years of production planning, scheduling, or supply chain planning experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience managing complex, multi-product production schedules.
- Advanced ERP/MRP planning experience.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including data analysis, reporting, and planning models.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple departments.
Preferred:
- Aerospace, defense, industrial, or other regulated manufacturing experience.
- APICS Certification (CPIM and/or CSCP).
- Experience with Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP).
- Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement experience.
- Experience performing Rough-Cut Capacity Planning (RCCP).
- Experience leading planning improvement initiatives.
Highly Desired:
- Strong analytical and capacity-based planning experience.
- Experience evaluating manufacturing capacity, identifying bottlenecks, and balancing labor, machine, and material constraints.
- Ability to analyze production data and develop actionable recommendations that improve schedule stability, inventory optimization, and overall manufacturing performance.
- Experience using data-driven decision making to support production planning and operational strategy.
