Description
This Planning Intern position is a part-time, limited-service role without benefits, working up to 28 hours per week and not to exceed 1,456 hours in any fiscal year.
Examples of Duties
Working a flexible schedule of up to 28 hours per week, the Planning Intern performs responsible technical work in the field of current planning, advanced planning, environmental analysis. Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: assist in the review of application; perform work related to the administration of the City zoning program; respond to public inquiries regarding zoning, signing, and related matters; research and prepare zoning and land use maps, plot plans and related routine graphic displays for use by the Department, Planning Commission, City Council and others; assist in research and preparation of complex written reports for Planning Commission, City Council and others; take photos, videos and field notes as required.
Typical Qualifications
Must be a college junior, senior or graduate student majoring in Urban and Regional Planning, Architecture or a closely related field. Competency in computer word processing and spreadsheet programs, Microsoft Office Suite (Microsoft Word, Excel PowerPoint and Access).

This position also requires extensive and repetitive physical activity involving the arms, wrists, and hands, including writing and using a keyboard. It also requires physical abilities associated with the ability to read, write and communicate in a work environment requiring no extraordinary physical strength or other special physical qualifications.
License Requirement:
Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record is required.
