What is a PLA?

PLA typically stands for 'Personal Learning Assistant' or 'Production Line Associate,' depending on the industry. PLAs can work in educational settings, where they support students and teachers by providing personalized learning guidance, or in manufacturing, where they assist with production processes on assembly lines. The specific duties vary by industry but often include supporting key workflows, ensuring quality standards, and helping improve operational efficiency.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a PLA?

To thrive as a Patent Litigation Associate, you typically need a law degree, admission to the bar, and a strong background in patent law or a technical field such as engineering or science. Familiarity with legal research platforms (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis), patent databases, and e-discovery tools is important. These skills are crucial for navigating complex legal and technical issues, effectively representing clients, and succeeding in high-stakes litigation.

What are common challenges faced by PLA engineers in their day-to-day work?

PLA engineers often encounter challenges related to optimizing logic designs for efficiency and manufacturability. Balancing the trade-offs between speed, power consumption, and chip area while meeting functional requirements can be complex. Job description

Director Product Management (Finance)

Honeywell Aerospace seeks a results-driven Director of Product Management to lead our next Avionics Platformโ€”a foundational software and middleware solution enabling development, certification, and deployment of next-generation avionics. This reusable, certifiable platform supports Anthem and future offerings through standardized services, lifecycle artifacts, configuration tools, documentation, training, and release management.

Reporting to senior leadership, the Director will guide investment decisions, roadmap priorities, platform adoption, and long-term growth. The Director will own the platform's vision, strategy, roadmap, business model, and adoption plan, aligning with customer needs, engineering priorities, certification requirements, and business goals. Success is measured by platform adoption, certification leverage, lifecycle cost reduction, roadmap execution, and establishing the platform as a scalable, sustainable product for Honeywell Aerospace.

You will report directly to our Senior Leadership Team and you'll work out of either Phoenix, AZ; Torrance, CA; Olathe, KS; Minneapolis, MN or Clearwater, FL locations on a Hybrid work schedule.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute the Thunderbolt platform strategy, roadmap, and adoption plan.
  • Own portfolio growth, investment prioritization, business cases, and lifecycle funding.
  • Lead product governance, release management, and cross-functional alignment.
  • Drive platform reuse, certification leverage, and customer adoption.
  • Serve as the executive product leader for the platform, ensuring long-term scalability, profitability, and innovation
Product-Line Governance & Release Discipline
  • Lead platform governance, prioritization, and change-control processes
  • Establish disciplined release management, roadmap execution, and certification-ready baselines.
  • Drive PAC/CCB decision making, manage scope and funding tradeoffs, control product variation
  • Ensure reusable platform assets remain aligned across development, certification, and customer releases
Certification, Compliance & Safety Alignment
  • Partner with Engineering, Certification, Safety, Cybersecurity, and Program Management teams to ensure the platform supports certifiable avionics applications across Honeywell Aerospace products.
  • Drive product requirements supporting DO-178C, A653/ARINC 653, FACE, ARINC 661, ARINC 664, TSO-C153a, and other applicable avionics standards where required by product implementations.
  • Ensure reusable lifecycle artifacts are treated as part of the product offering, including requirements, design, verification, validation, test evidence, certification packages, and configuration data
Customer, Consumer & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Build strong relationships with internal product teams, engineering leaders, and key stakeholders to drive platform adoption.
  • Gather customer insights, prioritize requirements, support onboarding and integration
  • Serve as the executive advocate for platform strategy, value realization, roadmap alignment, and long-term business success
Business Model, Funding & Financial Discipline
  • Define and manage the platform business model, including common investment, product-cost planning, consuming-product funding, NRE recovery, and lifecycle support funding.
  • Establish clear rules for which capabilities are funded as core platform investments versus program-specific customization.
  • Develop business cases for new platform investments, processor/OS expansion, toolchain improvements, documentation, training, support capability, and external platform opportunities.
  • Partner with Finance, Program Management, and senior leadership to track roadmap funding coverage, product-cost coverage, NRE recovery, and CCB request disposition.
  • Quantify the value of platform adoption through reduced reapplication effort, lower lifecycle cost, improved certification leverage, fewer defects, and reduced product variation.
  • Drive investment prioritization using ROI, strategic fit, adoption potential, certification leverage, and long-term support economics.
Cross-Functional Leadership
  • Lead through influence across Product Management, Engineering, Core PMO, Program Management, Systems, Software, Certification, Safety, Cybersecurity, Finance, Sales, and Operations.
  • Partner with the Chief Engineer and Engineering COE to maintain architecture integrity, technical standards, safety and cyber evidence, implementation quality, and technical trade discipline.
  • Partner with Core PMO to align IMS, budget, EAC, execution cadence, risk management, stakeholder updates, and phase-gate deliverables.
  • Drive executive alignment on product priorities, funding decisions, roadmap sequencing, and release commitments.
  • Create a culture of disciplined reuse, technical excellence, customer focus, and continuous improvement.
  • Develop talent, documentation, training, and succession plans to reduce dependency on a small number of platform experts.
QualificationsYou Must Have
  • 8+ years of product management, platform leadership, avionics, or software product experience.
  • Proven success developing product strategy, roadmaps, and lifecycle plans for complex technology products.
  • Strong business acumen, including investment planning, business cases, and portfolio management.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams across engineering, program management, finance, and certification organizations.
  • Ability to balance customer needs, technical tradeoffs, certification requirements, and business objectives.
We Value
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace, Business, or related field.
  • Strong analytical and market research skills.
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced and changing environment.
  • Experience in a global organization.
