A Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) operator, also known as a sit-down driver, is responsible for safely and efficiently operating powered industrial equipment to move, locate, and relocate materials within a warehouse or manufacturing facility. This includes driving forklifts, pallet jacks, and other similar vehicles, as well as loading and unloading trucks and containers. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operating PIT equipment:

Safely operates sit-down forklifts and other industrial vehicles to move, stack, and transport materials. 

  • Loading and unloading:

Loads and unloads products from trucks, trailers, and other transport vehicles. 

  • Maintaining equipment:

Inspects and performs routine maintenance on PIT equipment to ensure safe operation. 

  • Safety compliance:

Follows all company safety regulations and guidelines to ensure a safe work environment. 

  • Documentation:

Records and documents material movements, loads, and other relevant information. 

  • Assisting with other duties:

May assist with other warehouse or production tasks as needed. 

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Forklift certification: Typically requires a valid forklift certification. 
  • Physical fitness: May need to lift, bend, and stoop.
