Position Summary

The Table Games Pit Boss is responsible for the oversight of customers and dealers during the shift. The Pit Boss must ensure the integrity of the games while providing excellent customer service. The Pit Boss must look happy and exercise great customer service at all times without letting personal problems or feelings interfere. The Pit Boss has direct oversight of the dealers and will report any and all issues or concerns to the Table Games Manager. The Pit Boss may be required to deal games as needed by the table games department. The Pit Boss is required to treat all co-workers equally. The Pit Boss will work hours appropriate to meet the needs of the business, which may include being called in, event nights (even though they are usually off of work), weekends and holidays.

Essential Functions of the Position

  • Ensure Thunderbird quality customer service and cheerful atmosphere maintained in your department. i.e. Greeting players, calling players by their name, talking to players while working and telling them bye when they are leaving.
  • Supervise up to 12 dealers
  • Responsible for correcting actions of dealers that arent following policies and procedures of Thunderbird Casino.
  • Ensure safety and cleanliness of department at all times.
  • Reports suspicious activity to Table Games Manager or Surveillance.
  • Pays strict attention to the observation of game play to ensure proper game protection and protection of casino assets.
  • The ability to count cards on blackjack.
  • Assist in setting schedules and dealer rotations.
  • Make good and proper decisions that reflect positively on you and the Casino.
  • Responsible for the compilation of all necessary information and preparation of reports needed to comply with Tribal, Federal, and State regulations.
  • Maintain proper compliance at all times.
  • Handle large amounts of cash.
  • The ability to deal all table games offered by Thunderbird Casino.
  • Color up or break down guest chips.
  • Pay out large amounts of chips using multiplication.
  • Exercise guidelines set forth in Title 31 training
  • Keep accurate records of monetary exchanges and vouchers
  • Obtain customer signatures as policy demands
  • Obtain a copy of customer I.D. as policy demands
  • Maintain good working relationship with all co-workers and general public
  • Perform other duties as assigned i.e Get a soft drink for guest, cashing out tips at the cage, cleaning tables, chairs and ash trays.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational and customer service skills.
  • Ability to fill out required paperwork (W-9 or MTL Monetary Transaction Log).
  • Ability to follow jackpot instructions as written by the table games manager.
  • Must have exceptional customer service skills, leadership skills, ability to relate well with others, and remain calm under pressure.
  • Must be skilled in pointing out suspicious activity.
  • The ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously still while working in an environment subject to constant interruptions and quickly changing priorities; ability to prioritize responsibilities when necessary; effective time-management skills.
  • Ability to perform basic math functions; add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
  • Knowledge of Tribal/State/Federal laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of National Indian Gaming Commission (NIGC) and the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (IGRA).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, vendors, Board members, and the public, both in person and through phone, e-mail and written correspondence.
  • Ability to learn quickly, self-leader with initiative, highly flexible and comfortable in a constantly changing environment.
  • Exercise the ability and accuracy to handle large sums of money.
  • Skill in communication with guest and employees in any situation.
  • Good math skills and ability to use those skills quickly.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment and work well under pressure.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Direct supervisory responsiblities for Table Game Dealers.

Physical Demands

  • Required to walk, sit and stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to push, lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel and move intermittently throughout the day.

Work Environment

  • Indoor/Outdoor; exposure to external environmental conditions possible.
  • Exposure to second hand smoke.
  • Noise level can be intense while dealing or working with multiple employees and guest creating an overwheming feeling.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma (or equivalent combination of education and experience combined).
  • One (1) year Table Games experience required
  • One (1) year previous cash handling position preferred.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be able to pass a background check, drug screen, and obtain a key gaming license.
