Job description

Reports To: Project Manager / Senior Project Manager

FLSA Status: Exempt

Location: Greater Chicagoland Area

Experience: New Graduate / 0–2 Years

Position Summary

The Project Engineer supports Project Managers and field leadership in the planning, coordination, documentation, and successful execution of construction projects. This is an entry-level development position intended to provide exposure to both field and office operations while building the skills necessary to progress into project management.

  • Assist Project Managers with day-to-day project coordination and administration.
  • Review project drawings, specifications, contracts, and other construction documents.
  • Prepare, track, and maintain RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project documentation.
  • Assist with project schedules, cost tracking, forecasting, and budget documentation.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, vendors, suppliers, field personnel, and customers.
  • Track material and equipment requirements to support project schedules.
  • Participate in project meetings and prepare meeting minutes and follow-up items.
  • Assist with subcontractor scopes, purchase orders, and change documentation.
  • Support project billing, cost coding, and documentation as needed.
  • Perform site visits and work closely with Superintendents and field leadership.
  • Monitor project progress and communicate potential schedule, cost, or operational concerns.
  • Assist with project closeout, punch lists, warranties, and turnover documentation.
  • Maintain organized electronic project files and utilize company project-management systems.
  • Follow Pirtano safety policies and promote a strong safety culture on all jobsites.
  • Perform other project-related responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • 0–2 years of construction experience; new graduates encouraged to apply.
  • Construction internship or co-op experience preferred but not required.
  • Basic understanding of construction drawings and specifications.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and general technology skills.
  • Experience with construction/project-management software is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with field employees, subcontractors, customers, and management.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to Chicagoland project sites as required.
