Job description

Lead Piping Designer
Location:ย Salt Lake City, UT

Skills and Experience:

This position is responsible for leading the design and development of industrial piping systems, creating detailed equipment layouts and piping routings, and ensuring designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements. The Lead Piping Designer will oversee and coordinate the work of other designers, maintain and update project 3D models, prepare engineering drawings and documentation, and collaborate with project managers, engineers, clients, and construction teams throughout the project lifecycle.

The role includes developing equipment and facility layouts, producing orthographic and isometric drawings, generating bills of materials, designing piping supports, and performing field walkdowns to verify existing conditions and collect measurements. The successful candidate will also review client piping specifications, respond to contractor RFIs during construction, and support construction management activities to ensure successful project execution.

Requirements:

  • Proficiency withย AutoCAD Plant 3D
  • Ability to read and interpret client piping specifications
  • Experience performing P&ID walkdowns and field measurements
  • Experience preparing isometric drawings, orthographic drawings, and piping layouts
  • Hands-on experience developing equipment layouts, facility layouts, and 3D piping models
  • Experience preparing bills of materials and designing piping supports
  • Ability to lead and coordinate a small team of designers while tracking project deliverables
  • Experience responding to contractor RFIs based on Issued for Construction (IFC) documents
  • Experience supporting construction management activities
  • Strong understanding of applicable piping codes, standards, and industry best practices
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with clients, engineers, project managers, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Associate's Degree in Drafting, Design, or a related technical field required
  • Industrial design experience in markets such as chemical, power, pulpย
