Job Title: Piping Designer
Job Type: Full-time
Location: Mobile, AL
Job Summary:
Our client, a multi-discipline, full service consulting and design engineering firm based in Mobile, Alabama, is seeking a highly skilled Piping Designer with extensive experience in piping/mechanical drafting, design, and field work. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in AutoCAD and Plant 3D design for industrial facilities in the chemical, petrochemical, pulp and paper, and power industries. This role involves producing quality technical drawings, gathering field data, and ensuring design accuracy, all while collaborating closely with engineers and multi-discipline teams.
Responsibilities:
  • Work under the direction of a Lead Piping Designer or Department Manager to provide 3D drafting and design services
  • Develop and modify piping drawings using AutoCAD and Plant 3D based on P&IDs, general arrangements, piping specifications, equipment drawings, and field data
  • Produce complex piping drawings, including, isometrics, orthographics, sections, details, and general arrangement drawings
  • Prepare material take-offs and cost estimates from piping drawings
  • Recommend modifications and design changes for improvement and simplification
  • Perform field walk-downs to verify existing conditions, gather measurements, and communicate with client personnel
  • Coordinate CAD projects with other disciplines to ensure design integration
  • Check and analyze drawings for dimensional accuracy, compliance with CAD/drafting standards, neatness, and completeness before release
  • Maintain familiarity with project scope, specifications, and design criteria
  • Recognize and communicate scope and design changes promptly
Qualifications:
  • Associateโ€™s degree in Engineering Technology, technical trade school certification, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 5 years of experience using AutoCAD, Plant 3D and Navisworks preferred
  • Minimum 5 years piping design and field experience
  • Knowledge of piping materials, supports, restraints, and flexibility analysis
  • Experience in chemical, petrochemical, pulp and paper, and power industries
  • Proficiency in mechanical and piping 3D drafting and design
  • Strong understanding of workflow between engineering disciplines and schedule constraints
  • Experience with laser scanning and processing scan data is a plus
  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills
