Job Description
Zachry Engineering Corp (ZEC) is currently looking for a talented and self-motivated Principal Designer Electrical with responsible for delivering complex electrical design solutions for large-scale industrial, energy, or infrastructure projects. This is a great opportunity to get involved on challenging and interesting design projects within the Power industry.
Responsibilities
Involved in application of general design practices. Will select and recommend procedures in design and prepare/oversee designs for Engineer's approval. Performs non routine and complex assignments involving responsibility for planning and coordinating to complete a project of large scope or a smaller diverse project. Selects and adapts plans, techniques, designs, and coordinates the work. Reviews, analyzes, and integrates the technical requirements and design approaches. Review work for technical adequacy and satisfaction of requirements. Position skills are heavily focused on electrical design but have a working technical knowledge of other discipline design requirements. May be designated as the technical services design lead to coordinate work or designated checker on assigned project. Capable of leading and coordinating others within their discipline to successfully complete project assignments. Provide field support including field verifications for retrofit applications, as-built documentation, on-site procurement and installation supervision.
  • Design review to assure adherence to applicable codes, standards, and project requirements.
  • Lead a team of electrical wiring designers.
  • Develop one-line and three-line diagrams.
  • Develop schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Develop one-lines for Medium and Low Voltage applications.
  • Coordination with engineering and other disciplines to assure a complete, coordinated design.
  • Ability to review and work with Piping and Instrument Diagrams (PIDs) along with Vendor supplied documentation to develop electrical wiring diagrams.
  • Ability to size LV power cables using the National Electrical Code.
  • Perform designs to interface electrical equipment using control and signal cabling.
  • Present work status to senior management including forecast completion dates.
  • Develop schedule of deliverables and lead team toward completion dates.
  • Coordination with engineering and other crafts to assure a complete, coordinated design.

Qualifications
  • Associates degree or equivalent from two year college or technical school.
  • Minimum of 10 years of electrical design experience in the Power and Industrial Industry.
  • Previous Lead Designer experience.
  • 2D MicroStation and AutoCAD experience required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required.
  • Must be able to understand and comply with company policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be organized, self-directed, able to prioritize and multi-task, work in a team environment and take direction from others.
  • Willingness to travel and work in office and field environments as necessary.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Associates Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology.
  • Certificate in Design/Drafting.
  • 15-20 years of electrical engineering design experience.
  • Knowledge of Mechanical Process Systems.
  • Experience with hazardous area classification a plus.
  • Working Experience with Medium and Low Voltage Switchgear/Motor Control Centers.
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code.
  • Experience with Smart Plant Software SPEL or SPI a plus.

Physical Demands
Employee will be required to communicate in person, via telephone, email, use of arm/hand steadiness, manual dexterity, finger dexterity, multi limb coordination, oral expression, and comprehension. May be required to lift, carry and move objects safely.
Work Environment
Work will be in a general office environment operating and functioning in a fast-paced work environment. Occasionally required to work in an industrial location where noise levels will be moderate to high. Job sites may contain the following: light to heavy equipment vehicles, small to large equipment, materials, communication equipment and tools, people standing, walking, sitting, signaling, and talking. Noise levels vary and may include bells, whistles, and alarms.
