Pipeline Controller Operator information

What is a pipeline controller operator?

Pipeline Controller Operators are professionals responsible for monitoring and managing the flow of oil, gas, or other materials through pipelines. They use advanced control systems and technology to ensure safe, efficient, and continuous pipeline operations. Their duties include detecting leaks, responding to emergencies, maintaining regulatory compliance, and coordinating with field personnel to address any issues. This role is critical for preventing environmental hazards and ensuring the reliable delivery of resources.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be a pipeline controller operator?

To thrive as a Pipeline Controller Operator, you need strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and typically a background in engineering, operations, or a related technical field. Familiarity with Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, pipeline monitoring software, and relevant safety certifications such as API or DOT compliance is essential. Outstanding situational awareness, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are important soft skills for this role. These competencies are crucial to ensure the safe, efficient, and uninterrupted operation of pipeline systems, preventing environmental hazards and maintaining regulatory compliance.

What is the difference between Pipeline Controller Operator vs Pipeline Technician?

AspectPipeline Controller OperatorPipeline Technician

Work EnvironmentControl rooms, monitoring stations, and field sitesFieldwork, maintenance sites, and equipment inspection areas
Industry UsageUsed in oil, gas, and pipeline industries for monitoring and controlInvolved in installation, maintenance, and repair of pipelines

The Pipeline Controller Operator primarily monitors and controls pipeline operations from control centers, ensuring safety and efficiency. In contrast, the Pipeline Technician focuses on maintaining and repairing pipeline infrastructure in the field. Both roles require technical certifications and safety training, but their daily tasks and work environments differ significantly.

What are common challenges faced by pipeline controller operators and how can they be addressed?

Pipeline Controller Operators often face challenges such as monitoring large volumes of data simultaneously, responding quickly to abnormal operating conditions, and effectively communicating with field personnel during emergencies. Staying vigilant and maintaining strong attention to detail are crucial, as a small oversight can lead to significant safety or environmental incidents. Continuous training on updated control systems and emergency protocols, as well as fostering strong teamwork and communication skills, can help operators successfully manage these challenges.

Job description

At VASA Fitness, we're more than a gym--we're a community built on unity, passion, love, integrity, fun, and trust. We create UPLIFTing experiences for everyone through inclusive, accessible, and on-trend fitness. VASA is a place where lives are changed through authentic connections, growth, and support--for both members and team members.

We're growing quickly--opening new clubs, building teams, and scaling a business that's making a real impact. We're looking for a District Manager who wants to be in it--leading from the front, driving performance, and building strong, results-focused teams.

HOW YOU WILL CHANGE LIVES

Owning the Business

This is a hands-on, in-the-field leadership role.

As a District Manager, you'll lead several clubs--working through General Managers and Team Leads to ensure each location is operating at a high level and delivering a consistent, high-quality member experience.

Most of your time is spent in the clubs--walking floors, reviewing performance with your GMs, and working through real operational and sales challenges as they arise.

You'll own performance across your district, including membership growth and retention, revenue streams like STUDIO and personal training, and key operational drivers such as labor management and team turnover. This includes managing district budgets, guiding club-level financial decisions, and ensuring labor and operating costs align with business goals.

Success in this role comes from strong prioritization--using data to identify trends, make quick, informed decisions, and keep your clubs on track.

Building and Leading High-Performing Teams

This role is about leading through others. You'll set clear expectations, coach consistently, and hold your leaders accountable to both execution and results--building teams that can operate independently at a high level.

You'll partner closely with your Regional Director to align on priorities, communicate challenges, and drive improvements across your district.

Equally important is building a strong leadership bench--developing General Managers and Team Leads, identifying future leaders, and creating a culture of ownership, accountability, and high performance across your clubs.

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU

When you join VASA, you'll find more than a job--you'll find a place to belong. Our leaders believe in our mission, have high standards, and give energy to others every day.

  • High-visibility role with direct influence on club operations, sales performance, and member experience
  • Ownership of a multi-club business (up to 6 locations) with real impact on performance and growth
  • Opportunities for career growth within a rapidly expanding company
  • Wellness is a priority! All employees receive two complimentary gym memberships--one for you and one to share
  • All employees are eligible to participate in 401(k) options and the Employee Assistance Program--FREE therapy, financial advising, legal advice, and more
  • Salaried Employees: Flexible Vacation Plan, Paid Holidays, Paid Parental Leave, and Health, Dental, Vision Benefits

COMPENSATION DETAILS

  • $85,000--$98,000 base salary + commission eligibility
  • $2,000 monthly bonus eligibility based on club performance
  • Up to $300 additional monthly kicker for exceeding key performance targets

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

We're looking for leaders who understand how to run a business and build high-performing teams.

  • 4--6+ years of multi-unit leadership experience (fitness, retail, hospitality, or similar)
  • Proven ability to lead leaders and hold teams accountable to performance
  • Strong understanding of sales strategy and execution, including membership growth, lead conversion, and upselling services
  • Experience driving revenue streams like personal training and boutique/STUDIO-style offerings
  • Strong understanding of P&L, labor management, and controlling operating costs
  • Experience managing employee performance and turnover across multiple locations
  • Ability to prioritize effectively, analyze performance, and make quick, informed decisions
  • Strong coaching skills with a willingness to give direct, actionable feedback
  • Partner closely with HR, recruiting, and corporate teams to build strong leadership pipelines and support club performance
  • Strong operational discipline, including execution of company standards, policies, and loss prevention practices
  • High level of ownership, urgency, and accountability
  • Willingness to travel frequently (~80%) and spend the majority of time in clubs

WHAT DOES SUCCESS LOOK LIKE

  • Your district consistently delivers strong business results across membership growth, lead conversion, STUDIO upsell, personal training revenue, labor management, employee retention, and overall club profitability
  • General Managers and Team Leads are strong operators--accountable, developing, and leading teams that reflect VASA's standards and values
  • You stay close to the business--coaching sales conversations, improving execution, and solving problems quickly with your leaders
  • District budgets are managed effectively, with labor and operating costs aligned to performance goals
  • New clubs and major initiatives are executed smoothly--from staffing and training to launch and ongoing performance
  • Clubs are clean, staffed, and operating at a high standard every day--creating a consistent, welcoming member experience
  • Performance is actively managed through clear expectations, coaching, and consistent follow-through
  • You build a strong leadership bench by developing GMs, leading succession planning, and identifying future leaders across your district
  • Company standards, policies, and loss prevention practices are consistently executed across all clubs

We are proud to be a Great Place to Work® certified company!
