Job description

Position Summary
The Journeyman Pipefitter is responsible for installing, assembling, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing piping systems used in industrial, commercial, and mechanical applications. The position requires the ability to read blueprints and specifications, safely operate tools and equipment, and work independently or as part of a crew.
Key Responsibilities
  • Install, assemble, fabricate, and repair piping systems according to drawings, specifications, and applicable codes.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, isometric drawings, P&IDs, and job specifications.
  • Measure, cut, thread, groove, bend, fit, and weld pipe and related components.
  • Install valves, pumps, fittings, supports, hangers, and other piping components.
  • Perform system testing, pressure testing, troubleshooting, and repairs.
  • Identify piping materials and select appropriate tools, fittings, and installation methods.
  • Work with carbon steel, stainless steel, copper, PVC, and other piping materials as required.
  • Safely operate hand tools, power tools, pipe machines, lifting equipment, and other job-related equipment.
  • Follow OSHA requirements, company safety policies, and applicable building/mechanical codes.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Coordinate with welders, electricians, millwrights, contractors, and other trades as necessary.
  • Complete required paperwork, documentation, and daily work reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or foreman.
Qualifications
  • Journeyman-level pipefitting experience and/or completion of a recognized pipefitter apprenticeship.
  • Strong knowledge of piping installation, fabrication, and repair.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, P&IDs, and isometric drawings.
  • Proficiency with pipe measurement, layout, fitting, and fabrication.
  • Knowledge of applicable OSHA and industry safety requirements.
  • Ability to use basic math, measurements, and fractions accurately.
  • Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in varying environmental conditions when required.
  • Ability to lift and move materials and equipment safely.
  • Valid driver's license may be required depending on job requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Welding or brazing experience.
  • Experience with industrial, power plant, chemical, manufacturing, or commercial piping systems.
  • Experience with hydraulic, steam, process, or compressed-air systems.
  • NCCER, state, union, or other recognized journeyman certification.
  • OSHA 10/30 or equivalent safety training.
Physical Requirements
The position may require standing, walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, working overhead, and working in confined or elevated areas. Employees must be capable of safely handling pipe, tools, and equipment and performing physically demanding work for extended periods.
