Pickling information

What is pickling?

A Pickling job involves the process of treating metal surfaces to remove impurities such as rust, scale, and oxidation using a chemical solution, typically an acid. This step is essential in metal manufacturing and fabrication to ensure a clean surface for further processing like coating, painting, or welding. Workers in this role handle and monitor the pickling process, maintain equipment, and follow safety protocols to manage hazardous materials.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of someone working in a pickling position?

In a Pickling role, your daily tasks may include preparing and measuring ingredients, operating pickling vats or machines, monitoring processes to ensure proper fermentation or preservation, and maintaining cleanliness in your work area. You’ll also regularly inspect batches for quality, record production data, and package finished products according to company standards. Collaboration with quality assurance teams and other production staff is common to ensure all products meet safety and flavor requirements. The work is hands-on and often requires following detailed recipes and strict health guidelines to produce consistent, high-quality pickled goods.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the pickling position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Pickling worker, you need a solid understanding of food safety, sanitation protocols, and attention to detail, often supported by experience in food processing or manufacturing environments. Familiarity with industrial kitchen equipment, pH meters, and standard operating procedures for pickling is commonly required. Physical stamina, teamwork, and the ability to follow precise instructions are important soft skills in this role. These competencies ensure high-quality, safe products are produced efficiently while maintaining compliance with health and safety regulations.

Job description

Multi-Craft Maintenance Technician - Night Shift
Earn $85K-$100K+ | $5,000 Sign-On Bonus | Real Troubleshooting
If you're the tech people call when hydraulics blow a seal, a pump starts screaming, or a gearbox decides to die at 2 a.m., this is your shift.
We're hiring a Multi-Craft Maintenance Technician for our steel pickling & slitting operation. This is a nightshift role built for high-skill troubleshooters who want fewer interruptions, and the kind of overtime structure that pushes earnings into six-figure territory.
Training is completed on day shift before moving to nights (6:00pm-6:00am, 24/7 bi-weekly rotation).
Why Nightshift Techs Choose This Role
  • Annual earning potential: mid-$80Ks to low-$100Ks
  • $5,000 sign on bonus
  • Quarterly incentives + attendance bonuses
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage starting Day 1
  • 401(k): 3% company contribution + 2% match
  • Overtime: time and a half after 40 hours, double time after 48
  • $180 annual boot allowance
  • 11 paid holidays + paid vacation
  • Ongoing training and education assistance

This is a shift where your skill actually shows - and pays.
Why Night Shift Works for Skilled Techs
  • Night shift is where the real work happens.
  • Fewer interruptions - more time to actually fix things
  • Higher earning potential
  • Smaller crew - your skill matters more
  • A steady 24/7 operation where maintenance is always active and supported
  • Ideal for techs who like diagnosing problems and keeping production moving

If you like being the person who keeps the plant alive overnight, this is your environment.
What You'll Work On
  • Pickling line equipment
  • Slitters
  • Hydraulics (pumps, valves, cylinders)
  • Pneumatics
  • Conveyors
  • Gearboxes
  • Welding & fabrication repairs
  • Basic electrical troubleshooting

This is hands-on, heavy equipment maintenance - not light facility work.
What You Bring
  • 2+ years of industrial maintenance, manufacturing, or heavy mechanical experience
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting ability
  • Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, bearings, pumps, conveyors, or gearboxes
  • Welding/fabrication experience preferred
  • PLC experience is a plus
  • Comfortable with computers, meters, and measurement tools
  • Willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Able to complete CPR, First Aid, and First Responder training
