Department: Inventory Operations

Reports To: Inventory Operations Manager

Location: Kent, WA


Job Summary

The Team Lead – Picking is responsible for leading and coordinating the picking team, ensuring accurate and efficient customer order fulfillment within the BuyWander warehouse. This role provides guidance, training, and support to Product Handler – Pickers, assists the Inventory Operations Manager with team management, and occasionally fills in for the Manager when necessary.


Responsibilities


Team Leadership and Supervision:

  • Oversee the Order Picking team, providing daily guidance, training, and support.
  • Coordinate tasks and assignments to ensure smooth workflow and meet daily quotas.
  • Assist the Inventory Operations Manager with the training of new team members, including reinforcing quality and accuracy standards.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for team member questions and issues.
  • Motivate and hold team members accountable to meet daily performance goals.


Order Picking and Inventory Oversight:

  • Lead by example and participate in the picking process, including selecting pick waves, navigating aisles, locating SKUs, and scanning items.
  • Monitor the team's progress to ensure order accuracy, completeness, and adherence to speed metrics.
  • Monitor team compliance with scanning protocols ("nothing moves without being scanned").
  • Conduct or oversee warehouse inventory scans as needed.


Lost Item Tracking and Problem Solving:

  • Lead the effort to track down lost items using last-known-location data and other logic.
  • Proactively address process bottlenecks and real-time operational problems.


Warehouse Organization:

  • Oversee picking aisles to maintain a clean and organized environment, ensuring items are stored in their designated locations.


Managerial Support:

  • Assist the Inventory Operations Manager with running customer orders and customer load-out as needed.
  • Fill in for the Inventory Operations Manager when they are away, assuming all core responsibilities.


Requirements:

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in warehouse order picking or similar operations.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent customer service and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to operate a smartphone and Bluetooth scanner.
  • Ability to manage technology to accomplish tasks.
  • Ability to follow instructions, work independently, and communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.


Physical Requirements

This role involves sustained physical activity throughout the shift. The following are bona fide requirements of the position:

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds repeatedly throughout the day.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and reach overhead frequently.
  • Ability to work at a fast pace in a goal-driven environment.
  • Position requires seeing, hearing, use of hands and fingers, sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting and stooping in the performance of daily activities.
  • Must be able to communicate with others including talking, hearing, and listening and exchanging communication.
