Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced Inpatient Rehab RN for a 13-week day shift travel contract at a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital in West Virginia, requiring a minimum of 2 years RN experience and 1 year of inpatient rehab experience.
Details
- Work in a 24-bed inpatient medical rehabilitation unit (2S Med Rehab) within a large acute care hospital
- Patient population includes cerebrovascular disease (CVA/stroke), traumatic brain injury (TBI), spinal cord injury (SCI), amputees, neurological/neuromuscular diseases, and severe deconditioning related to cardiac or respiratory events
- Day shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 AMโ7:00 PM
- Weekday shifts with every other weekend required
- No on-call requirements
- Floating within scope may be required to meet facility needs
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4โ5 on days
- Each patient is supported by an interdisciplinary care team including a physiatrist, NP, nurse, therapists, and social worker; therapy sessions run 3 hours/day MondayโFriday
- Average patient length of stay is approximately 2 weeks
- Block schedule requests may be accommodated โ discuss during interview
- Charting system: Cerner (experience required)
- Hospital is a Level 1 Trauma Center and major teaching hospital affiliated with the Council of Teaching Hospitals and Health Systems (COTH), with 855 staffed beds
Requirements
- Active WV or Compact RN license required to start; candidates with a pending license may be considered
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Minimum 1 year of inpatient rehabilitation unit or hospital experience required
- BLS certification required (must be AHA-issued)
- Acute care rehab certification preferred
- Charge nurse experience preferred
- Cerner charting experience required
- Candidates must reside more than 100 miles from the facility; candidates between 75โ100 miles may be considered on a case-by-case basis
- Minimum of 2 manager or charge nurse references from within the past 2 years required for consideration
- Driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration
- Previous permanent employees of the Vandalia Health System (including CAMC Health Systems and affiliated facilities) are not eligible for a travel contract within the system
- Former permanent employees of this facility must have been separated for at least 2 years before returning as a traveler
Additional Information
- Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to develop and execute individualized patient care plans
- Perform IV therapy, blood and blood product administration, central line and PICC line care, venous blood draws, wound care, tracheostomy care, feeding tube management, and orthopedic care including prosthesis application and mobilization techniques
- Conduct neurological assessments including stroke scale assessment, seizure management, and care of TBI and SCI patients
- Administer and monitor anticoagulation, antiseizure, diuretics, and insulin protocols; perform blood glucose monitoring
- Orientation is held every other Thursday
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Flu vaccine is required during flu season (October 1โMarch 31); a medical exemption documented by an allergist or physician is accepted
- No RTO restrictions; time-off requests should be included on the application and discussed during the interview
- Scrub color: Royal Blue, White, or a combination of both
