Job description

Respiratory Therapist (RT) – Long Term Acute Care (LTAC)

Summary

Provide respiratory care for patients with prolonged acute illness—ventilator management, trach care, weaning, and patient/family education—in a long-term acute care hospital.

Key Duties

  • Initiate/monitor mechanical ventilation (invasive & non-invasive)

  • Manage tracheostomies and artificial airways

  • Administer respiratory treatments (meds, aerosol, chest physio, suctioning)

  • Perform diagnostic procedures (ABGs, pulse-oximetry, pulmonary function tests)

  • Educate patients/families on care and safety

  • Document care, maintain equipment, follow protocols & infection control

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Respiratory Therapy (Bachelor’s preferred)

  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or equivalent state licensure

  • ACLS, BLS certification (AHA)

  • Experience in ventilator and trach care (LTAC or similar highly preferred)

  • Strong assessment, communication, and teamwork skills
