Job description

Display Engineers at Meta are responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing state-of-the-art display systems for Meta's wearable products. This includes working on advanced display technologies, such as OLED and micro-LED, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to bring new display products to market. In this role, you will be responsible for helping create end to end display solutions that meet the highest standards of quality and performance.
Responsibilities
Drive the design and integration of full binocular display systems, including optics, mechanics, calibration, and system interfaces
• Develop and optimize display architectures, algorithms, and processes to ensure high-quality visual experiences
• Define technical goals, lead development of leading-edge technologies, and work with evolving ecosystems to provide differentiating capabilities
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop concepts and prototypes into realizable product hardware designs and implement display technologies
• Lead and drive execution of equipment development and bring-up on-site, identify risks, drive failure analysis and corrective actions, and implement yield, reliability, throughput, and up-time improvements
• Work closely with vendors and external partners to drive decisions and deliver results
• Mentor and develop engineers and cross-functional partners
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelors or Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or Optics Engineering, and/or equivalent practical experience
• 12+ years of experience in display engineering, display systems and/or related practical experience
• Experience in display technologies, including display architectures, algorithms, and processes
• Experience working with cross-functional teams, including software, hardware, and optics teams
• Experience working with one or more of the following technologies: displays, cameras, optics, electronics
• Proficient in at least one programming language such as Matlab, Python, or C++
• Proven experience in communication skills which allow to work effectively in a collaborative environment
Preferred Qualifications
• PhD in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Optics Engineering, and/or equivalent practical experience
• 15+ years of experience in display system design and development, spanning architecture definition through product delivery
• Demonstrated experience architecting end-to-end display systems for wearable or head-mounted devices
• Experience defining display system architecture across multiple concurrent programs or product lines
• Track record of translating system-level architecture into specifications and design rules for external manufacturing or JDM/ODM partners
• Experience managing technical interfaces with external partners, including spec definition, design review, and deliverable validation
• Experience in one or more of the following: waveguide-based display systems, MEMS scanning mirror displays, micro-LED or OLED microdisplays, laser-based illumination systems, or exit pupil expansion architectures
• Experience with display system integration including optical, mechanical, electrical, and software subsystem interfaces
• Familiarity with tolerancing analysis, design-for-manufacturing, and design rule (PDK) methodologies applied to optical or display systems
• Demonstrated experience in operating with speed and agility in ambiguous or fast-moving environments, including startup or early-stage product development experience
• Proven experience in technical communication to influence architecture decisions across organizational boundaries
• Experience incorporating AI/ML tools or computational methods into engineering design workflows
