Duties and Responsibilities
Application Pool Notice
Laredo College continuously accepts applications for part-time (adjunct) instructors to create a pool of candidates for each session/semester. Applications will be reviewed and positions will be filled based on department needs. Applications received for this pool will remain active for one year.
Position Requirements
Upon employment, candidate must reside in the state of Texas.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
This individual will be responsible for teaching science courses in his/her discipline in the Department of Natural Sciences with duties as listed below and in accordance with the Laredo College Manual of Policy and the Faculty Procedures Manual.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Teach assigned courses in your discipline by preparing lecture and/or laboratory materials and activities, which results in demonstrated student achievement.
  2. Prepare and, on the first day of class, review departmental syllabus which informs students in writing about course requirements as to absences, tardiness, testing, assignments, and grading policies.
  3. Provide students with an evaluation of their progress by promptly returning assignments, quizzes, and examinations.
  4. Compile, administer, and grade instruments that evaluate students' progress.
  5. Participate in assessment activities at course, department & college levels to assist students in achieving designated course objectives or learning outcomes.
  6. Provide educational assistance within assigned courses including tutoring, referral to available student support services and by acting as an educational resource for students.
  7. Counsel students and notify students of frequent absences, failures, or necessary make-up work.
  8. Meet all assigned classes on time in the assigned rooms and be available to students 15 minutes before class and 15 minutes after class, except between classes when teaching back-to-back classes, for face-to-face sections. Be available to students for an hour online per online section. Office hours must be listed on syllabus and canvas.
  9. Follow procedures and deadlines related to the Registration office, including submitting final grades, midterm grades, drops prior to the census date, and other requirements in PASPort.
  10. Submit a copy of canvas grade book, copy of PASPort grades, grade distribution sheets, certification rolls, incomplete grade forms, grade change forms, and other documentation to the departmental office.
  11. Participate in the procedures of evaluation of courses by students and by supervisors.
  12. Attend meetings called by the College Department Chairperson.
  13. Provide a safe environment for students and be responsible for the security of assigned equipment, materials, activity areas, and classrooms.
  14. If unexpected conditions occur which require immediate action, Laredo College will respond accordingly by abiding to national, state, and local governmental edicts to maintain the health and safety of students, faculty and staff while minimizing interruption to instruction. Instructors must be adequately prepared to change from face-to-face or hybrid to an online format. Cooperate in evaluation procedures by students, Department Chairperson, Dean, Provost/Vice-President of Academic Affairs or President.

Required:
  • A Bachelor's Degree is required

Preferred:
  • A Bachelor's Degree in a field of science is preferred.
  • Some experience teaching at the community and/or senior college level, is desirable

  • The individual must be knowledgeable, mature, and concerned with the academic progress of students.
  • The individual must be cooperative and professional in dealing with college administrators, colleagues, and students.
  • The ability to operate specialized laboratory equipment, audio-visual aids, and computers, and the ability to develop laboratory and lecture strategies to enhance teaching effectiveness are essential.
