Actalent is hiring a lab technician to join a dynamic life sciences research team. The company offers a world-class facility that meets unique technical, development, and regulatory needs. This role supports a life sciences research team focused on delivering fast, accurate answers for discovery, safety, and efficacy using advanced laboratory and inhalation technologies. As a Lab Technician in the Inhalation Dept, you contribute to in vivo and in vitro inhalation studies, aerosol generation and characterization, and a variety of research and development activities in a true research setting with strong opportunities for long-term growth into different technical areas.
Schedule: 9x80 schedule – will work 9 days over 2 weeks (will alternate Mon-Fri, 8a-5pm and Mon-Thurs on 4x10s).
Responsibilities
- Assist with inhalation laboratory activities, including in vivo and in vitro inhalation studies.
- Support experiments involving aerosol generation and characterization, following established protocols.
- Perform standard and non-standard laboratory tasks under the supervision and guidance of more experienced staff.
- Conduct trials, tests, and experiments to support engineering, production, and research and development activities.
- Apply principles of chemistry, biology, physics, material science, mathematics, and engineering to help solve complex technical problems.
- Verify the accuracy, applicability, and reasonableness of experimental designs and test data.
- Draft technical specifications and analyze technical data to support project documentation and reporting.
- Complete assigned project work within the provided schedule and budget, maintaining clear communication on progress.
- Operate laboratory and inhalation equipment and assist with calibrations and routine maintenance to ensure optimal performance.
- Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and adhere to all laboratory protocols and quality standards.
- Work with hazardous materials and chemicals safely and in accordance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs).
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including a respirator when required, and follow safety guidelines at all times.
Essential Skills
- Laboratory experience in a scientific or engineering setting, including handling chemicals and operating basic lab equipment.
- Foundational knowledge of chemistry and chemical engineering principles applied in a laboratory environment.
- Ability to assist with aerosol generation and characterization experiments under supervision.
- Capability to perform trials, tests, and experiments following direction from more experienced staff.
- Skill in applying basic principles of biology, physics, material science, mathematics, and engineering to laboratory tasks.
- Attention to detail in verifying the accuracy and reasonableness of designs and test data.
- Ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs).
- Willingness and ability to wear a respirator when required and work safely with hazardous chemicals.
- Eligibility to work in the United States in accordance with applicable regulations.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field, or 1 year of applicable experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field.
- Degrees in Chemical Engineering, Biological Engineering, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or closely related disciplines are highly relevant.
- Experience drafting technical specifications and analyzing technical data is beneficial.
- Ability to manage assigned project tasks within schedule and budget constraints.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a desire to learn and grow in a research-focused environment.
- Effective communication skills to work collaboratively with more experienced staff and cross-functional teams.
- Motivation to develop expertise in inhalation studies, aerosol science, and advanced laboratory techniques over time.
Work Environment
The role is based in a world-class research laboratory environment focused on life sciences and inhalation studies. You work with advanced equipment for in vivo and in vitro inhalation, aerosol generation, and characterization, and you support engineering, production, and R&D activities. The position involves regular handling of hazardous materials and chemicals, and all work follows strict SOPs and Good Laboratory Practices to ensure safety and data quality. You may be required to wear a respirator and other personal protective equipment as part of daily activities. The setting offers exposure to cutting-edge research, opportunities to collaborate with experienced scientists and engineers, and a clear path for growth into various specialized areas over the long term.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Columbus, OH.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00/hr.
