Description of position:

West Physics has an immediate opening for a Board Certified Diagnostic Medical Physicist based in the West Palm Beach, FL area. This position requires a solid clinical background in medical/health physics, a strong interest and aptitude for learning, and a can-do attitude with an excellent work ethic. The successful candidate should possess strong leadership, communication, and management skills. This position will best suit someone with excellent interpersonal skills, outstanding written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work independently and as part of a project team, and strong technical proficiency. The ability to exercise high responsibility and autonomy (once trained) is integral to this position. This position may require travel, typically up to 5 days per month, depending on the number and location of specific consulting assignments. This position offers substantial opportunities for professional, educational, and financial growth and development; as such, the candidate must be seeking long-term employment.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide medical physics quality assurance, testing, and consulting services as needed to fulfill its mission. These testing activities will involve MRI, CT, X-ray, mammography, fluoroscopy, and ultrasound. In addition, some nuclear medicine consulting and licensing activities will be performed
  • Provide ACR MRI, CT, NM/PET, US, and mammography accreditation services and data review to customers within the southeastern region of Florida.
  • Occasionally speak at seminars, trade shows, and represent WEST PHYSICS’ vendor booth at such events to bring in new business and enhance the company’s reputation. This will involve delivering lectures, presentations, etc., for these events
  • Occasionally participate in RSNA activities
  • Perform dosimetry review, worker and patient dose estimates, fetal dose estimates, and conduct dose investigations and ALARA reviews
  • Perform shielding designs and conduct shielding verification/integrity testing
  • Assist medical physicists and senior medical physicists with diagnostic radiology equipment testing
  • Other related duties as needed.


Prerequisites:

  • Master's (M.S.) degree in Medical Physics or a physics-related discipline. (Health Physics, Nuclear Engineering, etc.)
  • Board certified by one of the following:
  • American Board of Radiology (ABR) in Diagnostic Physics or Radiological Physics
  • American Board of Medical Physics (ABMP) in Medical Health Physics
  • Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine (CCPM) Licensure
  • Candidates who have passed part II of the ABR Diagnostic Medical Physics or ABMP exam are also encouraged to apply
  • Solid foundation in radiation physics, radiation biology, electronics, and other areas relevant to equipment quality assurance testing.
  • At least 3 years of documented experience in the diagnostic imaging/clinical environment.
  • Must meet current ACR requirements for the performance of accreditation-related testing of MRI and CT units.
  • MQSA approved (highly preferred)
  • High-level interpersonal skills, the ability to make presentations to large groups, and the capability to work independently and exhibit intellectual flexibility.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills, including professional, courteous, and convincing or persuasive in discussions with clients, regulators, and colleagues.
  • Strong technical proficiency, the ability to manage multiple complex assignments concurrently and to completion, strong attention to detail, and the ability to deliver exceptional client service.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • A working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and excellent general computer skills. Familiarity with Apple computers (i.e., macOS) and applications is a plus
  • Candidate must be willing and open to be trained on new opportunities and activities to enhance their technical skill set
  • Applicant must have a valid U.S. Driver's License
  • Applicant must be authorized to work in the U.S.


State of Florida Requirements for Diagnostic QC Testing:

  • Candidates who do not currently hold an approved Florida state license to perform diagnostic QA testing are still strongly encouraged to apply, as West Physics will manage licensing efforts for the selected candidate.
