Job Title: Surgical Coordinator

Opportunity:

This is an opportunity to join a fast-growing company at the ground level. We are looking for an individual with strong customer service skills and attention to detail. Responsibilities include scheduling surgical procedures with multiple hospitals and surgery centers, conducting pre-operative appointments for patients to sign paperwork, answering patient questions, discussing the surgical procedure, informing patients regarding insurance coverage and patient responsibility, maintaining an efficient schedule for surgeons, and following up with patients to ensure completion of surgical care.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Schedules, coordinates, and reschedules patient's surgical appointments and follow-up appointments as designated by the patient and the physician.
  • Responsible for reviewing, updating, and consolidating their primary physician's schedule to ensure an efficient surgery day.
  • Communicates information to patients regarding surgical insurance benefits, surgical consents, surgical procedures, pre-operative care, and post-operative care.
  • Required to answer telephone calls, return voicemails, and speak with patients to provide information and then communicate to the appropriate staff.
  • Reviews, completes, and files all necessary paperwork to meet physician and facility requirements.
  • Follow up with patients should their surgical plan not occur for next steps.ย 
  • Performs work related tasks and projects as required.ย 
  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Candidate Qualities & Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or equivalent required
  • One year of experience in a medical office setting is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, surgical procedures, and insurance terminology.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with physicians, patients and the public and be capable of establishing good working relationships with both internal and external customers.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to work under pressure in a fast paced environment.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficient in computers, relevant software applicants, and EHR systems.


Supervision Received: Clinic Executive Directorย ย ย 

Typical Physical Requirements: Requires frequent standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time. Requires some bending, stooping, and stretching. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity necessary for the operation of basic office equipment. Requires visual acuity and hearing in normal range. Requires the ability to work efficiently under high stress with patients who can be irritable or confused.ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย 

Typical Working Conditions: Work is performed in an office environment. Involves frequent telephone contact with patients and other medical staff. Interaction with others is constant and interruptive.
