Job description

Assistant Professor - Clinical, Physician Assistant Studies
Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Assistant Professor - Clinical, Physician Assistant Studies at its Detroit campus location.

Essential functions (job duties):
The Physician Assistant Faculty member participates in the delivery, assessment, and continuous improvement of the Physician Assistant Program. Responsibilities include teaching in the didactic and/or clinical curriculum, student advising, academic support and remediation, assessment, curriculum development, program service, and accreditation activities.
Essential functions:
1. Teaching
  • Teach assigned didactic and/or clinical year lectures in the physician assistant program.
  • Participate in laboratory instruction, simulation, and student assessment.
  • Develop and update course materials as assigned.

2. Student Advising and Academic Support
  • Serve as an academic advisor.
  • Assist in identifying students needing additional academic support.
  • Collaborate with course directors to implement remediation plans and monitor student progress.

3. Assessment and Program Improvement
  • Assist with examination development and performance assessments.
  • Participate in course and program evaluation activities.
  • Contribute to accreditation and continuous quality improvement initiatives.

4. Service
  • Participate in faculty meetings, admissions, and committee work as assigned.
  • Participate in program and college community events as needed.

5. Scholarship and Professional Development
  • Maintain clinical competence, certification, and licensure.
  • Participate in professional development and scholarly activities consistent with faculty expectations.
  • Maintain, foster and develop professional working relationships with alumni, guest speakers and other external agencies to maximize educational opportunities.

Unique duties:
Qualifications:
The successful candidate should meet the following qualifications:
1. Graduate of an ARC-PA accredited PA program or related accredited health care program. Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies or equivalent based on experience and professional involvement.
2. In good standing with Michigan licensing board.
3. NCCPA certification.
4. Two-three years full-time clinical experience as a PA or related health care clinician.
5. Experience in higher education, teaching, course coordination, and/or precepting students is preferred.
6. Highly motivated and innovative individual.
7. Have sound interpersonal communication skills necessary to negotiate, maintain and develop alumni/community involvement.
