Job Description: Pre-Admission Testing Nurse or (Licensed Practical Nurse, LPN)

Reports To: ASC PACU/Pre – Op Manager

General Summary of Duties: The Pre-Admission Testing Nurse functions in all aspects of the nursing process within the scope of our surgery center. Responsibilities include facilitation, communication, intervention, education, planning and providing nursing care for patients and families, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and the ASC Administrator. The Pre-Admission Testing Nurse acts as a patient advocate during the peri-operative experience. The Pre-Admission Testing Nurse communicates with physicians and RN's about changes in patient's clinical condition, responding quickly and accurately to these changes.

Essential Functions:

  • Maintain the confidentiality of medical information.
  • Responsible for chart and surgery schedules reviews.
  • Responsible to facilitate an efficient, clinically effective interface between the patient and the health care team to ensure quality, customer focused preadmission testing processes prior to surgery.
  • Through utilizing a working knowledge of clinical diagnosis and surgical procedures the Pre-Admission Testing Nurse will provide patient assessment, education, and the development of a plan of care. The Pre-Admission Testing Nurse is responsible for documentation with in the patients record and functions as a liaison between all members of the health care team internally and externally to ensure coordination of quality patient care.
  • Interview, receive, instruct, reassure and comfort patients.
  • Explains treatment procedures, medications and physician's instructions to patients and caregiver(s)
  • Constant communication with the patients regarding their surgeries.
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Manager to meet department needs

Requirements:

  • Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Rhode Island
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in healthcare setting
  • Clinical skills, documentation skills, and excellent communication skills
  • Computer skill proficiency in EHR, Microsoft word and outlook
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including telephone etiquette
  • Motivated individual with team approach
  • Must be able to travel to all sites if/when necessary
