Qualifications:
  1. High school diploma or equivalent
  2. No physical limitations which would prevent the applicant from satisfactorily performing job duties, including lifting, climbing ladders, etc., within recognized standards and limits Demonstrated ability to perform job duties satisfactorily without direct supervision
  3. Satisfactory history of safe, efficient and effective use of custodial products and equipment
  4. Must be able to meet districts cleaning, maintenance and safety standards
  5. Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved
  6. Minimum two years of experience as a custodian preferably in a school setting
  7. Demonstrates the ability to maintain effective and professional working relationships with students, staff, supervisors and members of the school
  8. Some heavy lifting and physical labor is required. Required to lift and/or move a minimum of 50 pounds regularly and is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to and over 90 pounds with help
  9. Demonstrates the ability to communicate, understand and follow directions both written and orally in English
  10. Required to properly handle chemical cleaners and supplies following school training and manufacturer's directions.
  11. Familiar with Green cleaning practices and floor stripping with mechanical refinishing is a plus, D34 does not use stripper in normal floor refinishing
  12. May be required to work during school holidays, weekends, days, evenings and overtime during inclement weather as directed by the head custodian, and Operations Manager
  13. Demonstrates working in a team environment is required

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  1. Meets regularly with the head custodian to coordinate janitorial and custodial services needed
  2. Follows and implements safe work practices and wears appropriate protective equipment
  3. Performs general cleaning and maintenance of the school building including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting and sanitizing according to established district criteria
  4. Assists with the removal of snow from driveways, parking lots, bus areas, sidewalks and entrances to the school
  5. Maintains the safety and security of the building and grounds and performs the final security check of the facility at the completion of the shift
  6. Assumes responsibility for the general fire safety of the school
  7. Sanitizes washroom fixtures, including toilets, urinals, washbowls, fixtures, walls, partitions and floors according to established district criteria
  8. Removes refuse from the building and places in the appropriate outside garbage/recycling container
  9. Moves and sets up chairs, tables choral risers etc. as required for school events
  10. Interfaces with all levels of staff within the building, with members of the school community and others who utilize the school facility
  11. Maintains the grounds surrounding the school as required
  12. Performs other related duties as may be necessary and assigned by the head custodian, building principal and Operations and Maintenance Manager
