Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Civil Construction Inspector position is responsible for fully understanding construction project plans and specifications, construction quality assurance, field quality measurement, project documentation including daily written and photo documentation, and material testing on one or multiple concurrent construction projects. Depending on the project, the Inspector will have the ability to properly work and communicate in a roadway or airfield environment. This position will serve as the on-site technical representative for the inspection of contractor construction activities, daily coordination with the contractor and other entities, and recommending acceptance of completed work. Lead inspectors may supervise other senior inspectors or inspectors. Senior inspectors may supervise other inspectors. All inspector positions will act under the responsibility of a Resident Engineer.

POSITION FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Analyzes applicable codes, standards and specifications and monitors construction activities for compliance
  • Measures quantities for progress payments and acceptance of work in accordance with contract specifications
  • Monitors various field testing in accordance with the applicable specifications
  • Performs general inspection of construction work for compliance with contract documents
  • Monitors contractor's site performance
  • Prepares Inspectors' Daily Reports (IDRs) and Daily Construction Reports (DCRs) and fills out appropriate inspection checklists for work under their supervision
  • Monitors contractor's materials sampling and testing scheduling
  • Oversees field quantity measurement for pay items
  • Performs pay item calculations and computations
  • Assists Quality Manager for monitoring Contractor's implementation of Contractor Quality Control (CQC) programs
  • Interfaces with CM Quality Coordinator on all quality issues
  • Documents any quality related issues that result in non-conformance reports (NCRs) or Quality Deficiency Reports (QDRs) in OCR
  • Analyzes applicable codes, standards and specifications and monitors construction activities for compliance
  • Takes daily progress photos
  • Collects material delivery tickets upon delivery of materials in the field
  • Inspects material for compliance with contract documents , schedules and field orders
  • Verifies work onsite is in full compliance with FAA Part 139
  • Informs Project Leader /Resident Engineer of all issues
  • Other duties assigned by the Resident Engineer

EDUCATION AND SKILLS

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent
  • 3 to 5 years of construction and engineering experience directly related to general field inspection and documentation on construction projects
  • IDOT Documentation
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to read and interpret contract documents and construction plans and specifications
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong time management skills and excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to effectively manage project team members. Must be very organized and have effective problem solving, leadership and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects/deadlines
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced collaborative environment
  • Team oriented working style and hands on approach to problem solving

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • Competitive base pay ($45.00 to $65.00 per hour)

The exact starting compensation to be offered will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire, in which a wide range of factors will be considered, including but not limited to, skillset, years of applicable experience, education, credentials and licensure, as applicable.
