Job Description

NBC Connecticut is looking for a versatile and highly motivated editor to create content for the multiple platforms we program. This person will be responsible for editing video content produced for digital and linear newscasts, working closely with broadcast reporters and producers and for using all social, multimedia and digital tools to grow our audience. 

Newsroom environments change quickly, and the successful candidate should be able to re-focus and prioritize their work based on needs of the shows and breaking stories. This candidate needs to be up to date on current events, both local and national, while demonstrating and working with the utmost integrity.The role combines keen attention to detail, sound editorial judgement, a desire to create compelling content and offer fresh ideas for multi-platform distribution. Candidates should be comfortable working in a team setting but also working solo under pressure at times.  

Responsibilities: 

  • Edit content for linear newscasts and prepare video content and stories for newscasts, as well as edit digital videos for all platforms, including but not limited to, YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok for multi-platform distribution.  
  • Partner closely with the EP to ensure alignment across all platforms. 
  • Demonstrate knowledge of editing techniques and trends for individual social platforms 
  • Identify and execute priorities for deliverables during a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. 
  • Participate in planning and execution of long-form editing, including special projects for both linear and social assigned. 
  • Communicate with show producers, management, assignment desk and reporters on delivering the best video 
  • Coordinate editing duties with photographers and other editors 
  • Work with other journalists on enterprising stories and train other editors on editing techniques 
  • Understand and practice ethical journalism and meet NBC news standards 
Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • 1+ year of digital post-production experience; editing in Adobe Premiere Pro 
  • 1+ year working in a newsroom environment  
  • Experience with digital workflows, file-based delivery 
  • Experience with frame rates, aspect ratios, and resolutions 

Desired Characteristics: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field 
  • Demonstrated news editorial judgment and/or ability to contribute to story building process 
  • Strong, professional written and verbal communication skills 
  • Proven experience editing content for a variety of platforms 
  • Familiarity with newsroom shorthand 
  • Collaborative spirit 
  • Experience working with and editing in Dalet Galaxy 
  • Understanding of Adobe Creative Cloud suite with a proficiency in After Effects; familiarity and comfortable working with Photoshop 
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues with editing software and equipment 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Programs including Excel, Word 
  • Knowledge of editing techniques and trends on individual social platforms  

Eligibility:
