Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Staff Pharmacist with compounding experience to join our team immediately. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with all pharmacy laws and regulations while delivering exceptional patient care. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, collaborative, and committed to maintaining the highest standards in pharmaceutical compounding and service.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- This role supervises pharmacy technicians and lab technicians.
- May direct and oversee ancillary staff in the absence of the Pharmacy Manager.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Must not be listed on government exclusion lists, including those maintained by the Office of Inspector General (OIG) and System for Award Management (SAM).
- Ensure the pharmacy complies with all federal and Arizona state laws, regulations, and rules governing pharmacy practice while on duty.
- Maintain all pharmacy records and inventories in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Maintain active licensure in good standing with the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy.
- Complete all required continuing education units (CEUs) approved by the Accreditation Council for Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE) within each reporting period.
- Notify the State Board of Pharmacy of employment changes or address updates as required.
- Wear appropriate identification indicating pharmacist status while on duty.
Compounding & Dispensing
- Review compound processes, procedures and dispense prescribed medications for patient care.
- Review prescriptions issued by physicians or authorized prescribers for accuracy and appropriateness.
- Receive prescriptions via oral, written, fax, or electronic transmission, including transfers.
- Perform pharmaceutical calculations accurately and adjust formulations when necessary.
- Direct pharmacy staff engaged in compounding, packaging, and labeling medications.
- Assay medications to determine identity, purity, and strength when applicable.
Patient Care & Consultation
- Provide counseling to patients and healthcare providers regarding drug interactions, side effects, dosage, storage, and therapy options.
- Perform accurate drug utilization reviews (DUR) for all patient records.
- Maintain detailed patient profiles and documentation of all compounding activities.
Operations & Compliance
- Ensure adherence to quality assurance procedures, security protocols, and controlled substance regulations.
- Oversee proper disposal of hazardous pharmaceutical waste.
- Enter and maintain accurate data in pharmacy systems, including patient, prescription, and billing information.
- Assist in training interns and pharmacy personnel.
- Collaborate with the Pharmacy Manager to support operations, improve patient care, and maintain policy consistency.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited institution.
- Current Arizona pharmacist license in good standing.
- Previous compounding experience preferred.
- Strong mathematical and compounding calculation skills.
- Ability to interpret technical, regulatory, and professional materials.
- Proficiency with pharmacy software, internet applications, and standard office tools.
- Strong reasoning, problem-solving, and organizational abilities.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to stand, reach, and communicate effectively.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Requires close vision and attention to detail for compounding and verification tasks.
