HII-Mission Technologies is seeking a Statistician to support the development and testing of defense systems.

What do we do?

In this role, you will partner with interdisciplinary teams to plan and implement statistical methods to gather and analyze data and assess it against stated performance requirements. We are at the forefront of applying advanced statistical methods and are constantly exploring new methodologies. The ideal candidate has demonstrated experience in topics such as Bayesian inference, non‑parametric interval calculation, combinatorics, Markov Chains, design of experiments, and time‑series analysis, as well as a desire to learn and grow.

  • Provide statistical expertise to acquisition programs and research projects
    • Lead development of test strategies, technical test designs, and post‑test analysis
    • Employ and apply rigorous test design types such as design of experiments (DOE)
    • Engage and mentor program team members in statistical methods
  • Support special studies for topics of interest to leadership such as
    • Metrics for using artificial intelligence and machine learning
    • Employing quantitative methods to validate models and simulations
    • Methodical approaches to cyber‑physical systems
    • Rigorous methods applied to testing autonomous systems
  • Communicate solutions to leadership orally and in writing
  • Author best practices and case studies for community use

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, statistics, applied math, operations research, or similar
  • 5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 3 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 0 years experience with PhD in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience.
  • 3 years practical statistical experience in industry or academia
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance
  • United States citizenship required and can't sponsor work visa due to federal requirements of contract.

Statistician I 0 years experience with Bachelors in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 4 years relevant experience.

Statistician II 2 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 0 years experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 6 years relevant experience.

Statistician III 5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 3 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 0 years experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience.

Preferred Requirements
  • Master’s degree in engineering, statistics, applied math, operations research, or similar
  • 1-2 years direct professional experience

Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to work on‑site in Roanoke, Virginia, supporting a secure, customer‑facing environment
  • Able to sit or stand for extended periods while working at a computer workstation
  • Occasional lifting (up to approximately 25 lbs) for tasks such as moving equipment or racking hardware
  • Ability to access data center or lab environments, which may require bending, stooping, or climbing short ladders
  • Ability to travel occasionally for meetings, training, or mission support, if required
