Job Description
Mentor: Talene Yacoubian, MD, PhD, Professor, Killion Center for Neurodegeneration and Experimental Therapeutics, Department of Neurology, The University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Post-doctoral position is available in the laboratory of Talene Yacoubian in the Killion Center for Neurodegeneration and Experimental Therapeutics at UAB. Our research focus is on understanding mechanisms of neurodegeneration in Parkinson's disease and related disorders. We seek a highly motivated individual who can lead projects examining the molecular and cellular mechanisms regulating alpha-synuclein aggregation and clearance in cellular and animal models of Parkinson's disease.
The candidate will have opportunities to write manuscripts and grants, mentor students, and present key research findings at national and international conferences. Further, the candidate will also have multiple opportunities to use his/her efforts to collaborate on multiple projects in our laboratory.
Appointment will be for one year with the possibility of extension contingent on satisfactory performance. Please submit your CV, research statement (less than 2 pages), and contact information of three references to Dr. Yacoubian (tyacoubian@uabmc.edu).
Required Qualifications
Candidates must have a PhD in neuroscience, molecular biology, biochemistry, physiology or equivalent field. This job involves advanced laboratory techniques in molecular biology, biochemistry, and cell biology. Candidates are expected to have prior experience in cell culture and small animal handling. Experience in primary neuronal cell culture and live imaging will be considered a plus. Candidates should exhibit breath of knowledge in experimental design and execution to meet research goals.
