Description
Summary:
The Department of Food and Animal Sciences invites applications for a 9-month faculty position (with additional opportunities for summer appointment) in poultry science. Rank and tenure status are negotiable based on qualifications. The successful candidate will develop an integrated research and outreach program focused on poultry production systems, with particular emphasis on limited-resource small farms and low-income communities. Potential areas of expertise include poultry production, health, management, nutrition, reproduction, sanitation, confinement, daily maintenance, and related production practices. The candidate will also contribute to Alabama poultry production systems and participate in teaching, advising, and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.
Examples of Duties
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for oversight of poultry operations and research
  • Teach 3 undergraduate courses per semester and 1 graduate course.
  • Develop a multidisciplinary independent research program via generation of extramural research funds
  • Participate in interdisciplinary research activities
  • Assist/advise undergraduate/graduate students
  • Serve on committees as assigned
  • Participate in student recruitment and retention activities
  • Execute any other duties and responsibilities that are assigned by the department chair

Typical Qualifications
Minimum Position Requirements (including certifications, licenses, etc.):
  • Earned Ph.D. in poultry science or related field with emphasis in poultry related topics or similar focus. Candidates must have excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to foster a positive team atmosphere.
Other Qualifications:
  • Documented evidence of individual and/or collaborative research resulting in peer- reviewed publications.
  • Show evidence of interdisciplinary collaborations with diverse audiences including faculty, stakeholders, and other clientele within and external to the university.
  • Demonstrate skills in securing grants or strong potential to secure extramural funding.
  • Show experience and interest in mentoring and teaching students from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Show involvement with recognized professional associations or organizations.
  • Demonstrate ability to disseminate information through scholarly publications, patents and presentations at scientific meetings and through technology transfer to agriculture and industry groups.
