Scope of Responsibilities: Works under direct supervision of a pharmacist. Follows standard procedures and state regulations to accomplish assigned tasks. Assists in orienting and training employees.  This role is intended for individuals who are actively progressing toward becoming a Registered Pharmacy Technician.

Job Summary: The Pharmacy Technician Trainee provides entrylevel assistance in prescription processing, customer service, inventory activities, and technology operations within the pharmacy. The trainee learns and practices job functions under close oversight to ensure safe, accurate, and highquality patient care. As skills develop, additional responsibilities may be assigned in alignment with state regulations and employer training requirements.  The Trainee is actively participating in the Kinney Certification Program to become a Registered Pharmacy Technician within 2 years.

 

 

Job Duties:

  • Assist customers at the pharmacy counter and drivethru, providing courteous and efficient service.
  • Help customers locate overthecounter products and route clinical questions to the pharmacist.
  • Enter, update, and maintain accurate patient and prescription information in the pharmacy system.
  • Ensure appropriate billing through third party payors and review and correct claims as necessary.
  • Ensure that every prescription has been checked by a pharmacist prior to dispensing.
  • Locate prescription files and other manual records from storage as needed.
  • Prepare and file pharmacy documentation for pharmacist signatures and review.
  • Count, label, and prepare medications according to prescription orders and regulatory guidelines.
  • Support nonsterile compounding activities as permitted by state regulations.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in ordering, receiving, and storing medication inventory.
  • Monitor expiration dates and rotate stock.
  • Perform returntostock procedures and cycle counting accurately.
  • Report inventory shortages or discrepancies promptly.
  • Maintain intermediate to advanced understanding of pharmacy tools, technology, and dispensing systems
  • Follow all state and federal regulations, including controlled substance and HIPAA requirements.
  • Comply with all company operational and quality assurance policies.
  • Assist in organizing and maintaining the willcall area.
  • Support patient care programs and initiatives.
  • Demonstrate integrity and always protect patient confidentiality.
  • Complete all required training within prescribed timelines.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe pharmacy work areas.
  • Support team members and perform additional duties as assigned.

Educational Requirements:

  • Minimum: High School Diploma (or currently enrolled) or GED
  • Preferred: AS Degree or Higher Required

Vermont Employees:    Registered  with the State of Vermont as a Pharmacy Technician Experience:

Preferred: Hospital or retail pharmacy experience

Special Conditions of Employment:

  • Drug test
  • Initial and continuous exclusion and sanction/disciplinary monitoring
  • Any and all additional eligibility requirements based on the specific position

 Compensation:

$16.50 - 17.50  an hour
