Job description

Staff Pharmacist

In the Staff Pharmacist role, you will play a key role in the department, ensuring that drug therapy management is safe and appropriate for Island Hospital system patients. Manages the drug purchasing, inventory, distribution, storage, security, compounding/dispensing, and drug administration practices.

Location: Anacortes, WA - Onsite Schedule: Per Diem / Variable hours Salary: $59.14/hr - $88.72/hr

What you will be doing:

  • Appropriately reviews medication orders for age specific dosing, duplication, drug interactions, allergies and appropriateness for the patient's disease state. When possible improves the patient's medication therapy by effectively communicating recommendations to physicians.
  • Effectively participates in activities to improve drug utilization
  • Enters medication orders into pharmacy computer system with appropriate care
  • Admixes, using aseptic technique, small volume and large volume parenterals prescribed by a physician.
  • Extemporaneously prepares medication in a professional manner which are not otherwise available from manufacturers
  • Provides drug information to physicians and nurses
  • When necessary, is able to purchase pharmaceuticals and biologicals from the pharmacy's primary vendor and/or individual manufacturers
  • Provides direct supervision and assistance, when needed, to pharmacy technicians

  • Self-motivated, flexible and has the ability work independently and in a team environment, with strong ethical standards.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to facilitate change while meeting multiple demands and priorities of a challenging position and workload.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong interpersonal relationships with staff at all levels of the organization with a focus on forming partnerships with key stakeholders to achieve an optimal patient care experience and support Island Hospital's strategic goals.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams and build positive relationships with clinicians, leaders, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to work extended hours to meet deadlines as necessary.

Your Qualifications:

  • Must maintain an active Pharmacist license issued by the WA Department of Health.
  • Completion of a US accredited pharmacy program required.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of Pharmacist experience preferred, will consider completion of a hospital pharmacy residency in lieu of experience.
  • Current BLS certification.
