Job Overview
The Associate Director in the Office of Graduate Careers (OGC) provides comprehensive career, externship, and professional development advising to the 400+ U.S. and Foreign-Trained residential and executive graduate students and alumni at Georgetown Law. The Associate Director develops career-related programming and training for these students, including skills workshops, panel discussions, and information sessions. The Associate Director also co-supervises OGC's Recruitment Coordinator/Manager and manages all aspects of the annual Taxation Interview Program, as well as any other career fairs or on-campus interview programs organized for graduate law students.
Additionally, the Associate Director is responsible for developing job, internship, and externship opportunities for LL.M. students, conducting marketing and outreach to potential employers (including summer employment outreach), and developing and managing career-related programs. The Associate Director serves as the liaison to the Office of Career Strategy and the Directors of the National Security Law and Tax LL.M. programs. Because this position will manage and administer all aspects of the Taxation Interview Program, this position will also work closely with the Director of the Graduate Tax Program. In addition, because this position will provide career and externship advice to Foreign-Trained LL.M. students, this position will also work closely with the Office of Graduate and International Programs. This position will report directly to the Assistant Dean, Office of Graduate Careers.
Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Co-supervise and co-manage, with the Assistant Dean, OGC's Recruitment Coordinator/Manager
  • Manage and implement all aspects of the Taxation Interview Program (TIP) and any other career related interview programs organized for graduate tax law students (e.g., IRS Honors Program)
  • Lead annual summer employer outreach efforts
  • Assist OGC team with developing, updating and maintaining OGC career resources on OGC's website and social media accounts
  • Assist the OGC team with developing, coordinating and implementing career related programs, trainings and workshops throughout the year to assist graduate law candidates on their job searches, career planning and professional development
  • Lead all career related programming related to the Tax LL.M. students
  • Provide individual and group counseling and career development and externship assistance to graduate law students and alumni on job search strategies
  • Assist, as needed, supervision and management of OGC's Resume Reviewer
  • Work with the Recruitment Coordinator/Manager to secure event/space reservations, logistics and food for career related events
  • On a rotating basis, assist the team with curating Hot Opportunities for weekly career newsletter
  • Work with the Recruitment Coordinator/Manager on updating OGC's website
  • Working with the Recruitment Coordinator/Manager, track and manage statistics and analytics, including employment outcomes through interview programs and the Post-Graduate Plans Survey, student interactions with OGC and at events, and report statistics to the Assistant Dean for OGC and the Program Directors.

Work Interactions
The Office of Graduate Careers consists of an Assistant Dean, an Associate Director (this position), an Assistant Director and a Recruitment Coordinator/Manager. The Associate Director will co-supervise/manage the Recruitment Coordinator/Manager along with the Assistant Dean. The Associate Director serves as the Graduate Careers liaison to the Office of Career Strategy and the Program Directors for the Tax LL.M. and National Security Law LL.M. In addition, because this position will provide career and externship advice to Foreign-Trained LL.M. students, this position will also work closely with the Office of Graduate and International Programs and the Director of Externships. This position will report directly to the Assistant Dean of OGC.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Position requires a Juris Doctor or equivalent law degree (LL.M. degree preferred)
  • Experience practicing law for at least five years is required. Experience practicing Tax law is preferred.
  • Requires knowledge of and interest in law school administration and student services
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive)

  • Previous career counseling, marketing, workshop planning experience
  • Demonstrated track record in developing and implementing new initiatives
  • Demonstrated track record in administering programs and trainings
  • Demonstrated track record in conducting successful marketing
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills demonstrated by strong writing, proofreading, and editing skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills demonstrated by the ability to make presentations and communicate with students on a one-on-one and group basis, helping them identify their professional and personal strengths, skills and abilities needed for a successful job search
  • Commitment to working with a diverse student body and faculty
  • Team approach to problem solving
  • Mentoring or coaching experience preferred
  • Knowledge of market practices within the legal employment market
  • Knowledge of the tax legal job market
  • Knowledge of legal resume and cover letter formats
  • Knowledge of methods and procedures for seeking professional legal employment, and of legal employers and their hiring needs

Pay Range:
The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$54,616.00 - $100,493.33
Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
