Laboratory Technician - Prescott Valley, AZ

We are looking for a detail-oriented Laboratory Technician who wants hands-on, multi-discipline bench work — chemistry, hematology, toxicology, and molecular diagnostics — with real exposure to PGX workflows and LC-MS/MS confirmation testing.

Overview & Highlights:

• Location: Prescott Valley, AZ — a growing mile-high community in central Arizona with year-round outdoor recreation and easy access to Prescott
• Schedule: Full-time, Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Occasional overtime, weekend, holiday, or schedule adjustments may be required based on operational needs and patient care requirements
• Compensation: $76,000 to $98,000 depending on experience

Location & Logistics:

• Work Environment: CLIA-regulated clinical laboratory performing chemistry, hematology, toxicology, and molecular diagnostic testing

• Patient-Facing Responsibilities: Minimal — this is a specimen- and testing-focused bench role
• Systems / Instrumentation: Molecular testing platforms and the Shimadzu LC-MS/MS analyzer with LabSolutions Insight software
• Travel: None
• Reporting Structure: Works with laboratory leadership, with Technical Supervisor oversight for molecular and toxicology testing

About the Opportunity / A Day in the Life:

Your day centers on the bench: determining specimen acceptability, accessioning and preparing samples, running routine through high-complexity testing per our SOPs, and reviewing quality control before results go out. You will work across multiple disciplines — chemistry, hematology, toxicology, and molecular diagnostics — so the work stays varied and your skill set keeps growing.

Once trained, qualified, and authorized under CLIA, you can take on our most advanced testing: pharmacogenomic (PGX) molecular workflows including nucleic acid extraction, and toxicology confirmation testing on the Shimadzu LC-MS/MS — sample preparation, analysis, quality control review, and troubleshooting.

Quality runs through everything: daily and monthly QC monitoring, calibration, maintenance and function checks, proficiency testing, and clean documentation. You will apply real technical judgment to identify and resolve analytical and instrument issues so patients get accurate, timely, reliable results.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

• Perform routine, complex, and high-complexity laboratory testing according to established SOPs and CLIA requirements for nonwaived testing personnel
• Determine specimen acceptability; perform accessioning, processing, preparation, and storage per laboratory procedures
• Maintain proper specimen identification, integrity, and documentation across pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic phases
• Perform molecular testing, PGX testing, and toxicology confirmation testing when qualified and authorized
• Run toxicology confirmation testing on the Shimadzu LC-MS/MS with LabSolutions Insight software, including specimen preparation, analysis, quality control review, and troubleshooting
• Perform nucleic acid extraction and prepare patient samples for PGX testing
• Prepare, evaluate, and utilize reagents, calibrators, controls, and testing materials
• Perform, review, and document calibrations and quality control; monitor QC daily and monthly and take action when standards are not met
• Review and report accurate laboratory results within established turnaround times
• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation; perform and document maintenance and function checks
• Participate in quality assurance, proficiency testing, and continuous improvement; maintain inventory and a clean, organized, compliant workspace
• Follow biosafety, chemical hygiene, infection prevention, and PPE requirements at all times

Required Qualifications:

• Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) program through NAACLS, ABHES, or CAAHEP, or an equivalent Clinical Laboratory Science program
• Ability to meet CLIA requirements for nonwaived testing personnel, including documented training and competency assessment before independently performing patient testing
• Participation in semiannual and annual competency assessments in accordance with CLIA
• Strong knowledge of good laboratory practices, pipetting techniques, instrumentation, quality control, safety practices, and regulatory requirements
• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and critical thinking; effective communication and the ability to work independently and collaboratively
• Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 40 pounds, work with hazardous chemicals and infectious materials, and perform repetitive manual tasks

Preferred Background:

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science (MLS/CLS), Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or another biological or chemical science meeting CLIA requirements for high-complexity testing personnel
• National certification through ASCP (MLS, MT, MB, or MLT) or AMT
• Four-year Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technologist with molecular diagnostics and toxicology testing experience
• Molecular workflow experience: nucleic acid extraction, sample preparation, PGX workflows, PCR-based methodologies or molecular platforms, contamination prevention, and molecular quality control
• LC-MS/MS toxicology confirmation experience: sample preparation, instrument operation, calibration, quality control review, and troubleshooting analytical issues
• Lead or supervisory laboratory experience
