Facility:
This is a large, well-established hospital featuring a 99-bed department and Level 2 trauma designation, providing comprehensive cardiothoracic surgical services to the region. The facility maintains a dedicated Cardiothoracic service line separate from its Vascular service, ensuring focused, specialized care and a collaborative environment for providers.

Physician - Thoracic Surgery - Cardio Thoracic Surgery
Job Details:
  • Locum Tenens coverage needed beginning 10/1/2026 indefinitely, with 7-10 days per month required, up to 14 days
  • Preferred schedule includes bookend weekends with the connecting week in between
  • This request is for Cardiothoracic coverage only; a separate Vascular service covers vascular patient needs
  • Variable patient encounters per shift in a 99-bed department
  • Perform general CV/thoracic surgery, both open and endoscopic
  • Perform coronary artery bypass surgery (CABG), both on pump and off pump
  • Manage and repair congenital defects including ASD, VSD, and PFO
  • Perform valvular repair and valvular replacement procedures
  • Perform aneurysm repair including cardiac and aorto-thoracic
  • Perform lung resection including VATs procedures
  • Perform chest wall and pleural procedures
  • Perform esophagus and diaphragm surgeries
  • Place AICD (Automatic Internal Cardiac Defibrillator) and left ventricular assist devices
  • Perform TAVR procedures
  • Manage ventilators and perform bronchoscopy
  • Evaluate and manage acute volume and blood pressure issues
  • Insert central lines, arterial lines, PA catheters, and IABP
  • Board certification required; minimum board certification eligible considered
  • Active MN license or IMLC required
  • ACLS and ATLS certifications required
  • Estimated credentialing timeframe of 90 days
  • Nearest airport: Duluth, MN; lodging options available nearby
