What is a pet relocation?

A Pet Relocation job involves coordinating and managing the safe transportation of pets domestically or internationally. Responsibilities include handling travel arrangements, securing necessary health certifications and permits, and ensuring pets have a stress-free journey. Professionals in this field work closely with pet owners, airlines, and regulatory agencies to comply with all travel requirements. Their goal is to ensure a smooth and comfortable relocation experience for pets and their families.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of a pet relocation specialist?

As a Pet Relocation Specialist, your daily responsibilities will include consulting with clients to assess their pets’ needs, preparing and reviewing travel paperwork, booking transportation arrangements, and liaising with airlines, customs officials, and veterinary services. You’ll also coordinate pick-up and drop-off logistics, monitor shipments in transit, and ensure compliance with all regulations for both domestic and international moves. The role requires frequent communication with pet owners to provide updates and reassurance throughout the relocation process. You’ll work both independently and as part of a team, often collaborating with logistics coordinators, veterinary professionals, and customs agents.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the pet relocation position, and why are they important?

To thrive in Pet Relocation, you need a solid understanding of animal care, international and domestic transportation regulations, and logistics coordination, typically supported by experience in animal services, veterinary assistance, or freight forwarding. Familiarity with industry-specific software (such as MoveManager or PetRelocation's proprietary platforms), knowledge of quarantine and import/export documentation, and certifications like the International Pet and Animal Transportation Association (IPATA) membership are valuable. Exceptional communication, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail help navigate client needs and unexpected challenges with sensitivity. These skills ensure the safe, efficient, and stress-free relocation of pets while providing excellent service to pet owners.

Job description

Join a Team Passionate About Pets and the People Who Love Them
Pet Wants is more than a pet store. We are a Rockport-owned and operated business providing the simplest, most convenient path to pet wellness. With our nutritious food, products, and services we are your friendly neighborhood pet health and wellness store.
Job Intro
Pet Wants in Rockport, TX is seeking an experienced, professional Pet Groomer ready for their next chapter. We are looking for a seasoned groomer who values quality over quantity, has the confidence to run a full book independently, enjoys building relationships with clients, and wants to be part of a supportive, education-driven environment.
Trade the traffic and the grind for a slower pace with real career growth. Rockport is a laid-back fishing and sailing town on the Texas coast, known for its beaches, bird-watching, and small-town charm along Aransas Bay. If you're an experienced groomer looking to relocate somewhere you can actually enjoy your days off and still build a serious career, this is that opportunity.
You won't need to spend months building a client base from scratch. You'll step into our established, loyal book of clients and have immediate work from day one. And unlike many grooming positions, this is a W-2 employee role, not an independent contractor arrangement, so you get the stability of taxes withheld, benefits, and a predictable paycheck.
Key Responsibilities
What You'll Do

  • Perform breed-specific and pet trims according to client requests and company standards
  • Conduct pre-groom wellness assessments and identify potential health concerns
  • Educate pet parents on coat care, nutrition, skin health, and overall wellness
  • Maintain accurate grooming notes and client records
  • Recommend grooming schedules and appropriate wellness products
  • Ensure a clean, organized, and sanitary grooming environment
  • Communicate professionally with clients regarding grooming expectations and pet needs
  • Follow all safety, handling, and animal welfare protocols

Experience/Qualifications
Who We're Looking For
  • Minimum 2+ years of professional grooming experience, with a proven track record building client relationships
  • Ability to complete full grooms independently, including large, double-coated, and difficult breeds
  • Strong scissoring, clipping, bathing, and finishing skills
  • Positive attitude and team-oriented mindset
  • Passion for pet health, nutrition, and wellness
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Reliable, organized, and professional
  • Desire to continue learning and growing within the grooming industry
  • Genuine love for animals and their well-being
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Ability to lift and handle pets weighing up to 50 pounds (with assistance available when needed)
  • Comfortable working around water, pet hair, grooming tools, and cleaning products
  • Ability to safely restrain and handle pets of varying sizes and temperaments

Culture
Why Join Pet Wants?
  • Live and work in a south Texas beach town, minutes from the water, with a laid-back coastal lifestyle
  • 4-day work week
  • Bathers/grooming assistance provided and compensated by the company. No tip sharing and you just groom!
  • Supportive and collaborative environment
  • Pet parents who prioritize quality care for their pets
  • Continuing education and professional development opportunities
  • Flexible scheduling options
  • Personalized, one-on-one approach to pet care
  • National brand support and resources

Benefits
Compensation & Benefits
  • Competitive compensation based on experience and qualifications
  • W-2 employee status, not an independent contractor
  • Step into an established, robust client base for immediate, steady work — no need to build a book from scratch
  • Company sponsored 401K with matching funds
  • Flexible scheduling with 4-day work week
  • Continuing education opportunities
  • Employee discounts on products and services
  • Career development within a growing national brand
  • Relocation-friendly opportunity for groomers ready for a change of scenery and pace
