Job description

Membership Sales & Guest Experience Lead

Scissors & Scotch is a barbershop and bar. It's upscale but not uptight. S&S caters to clients from all walks of life looking for an amazing haircut plus that "Cheers" experience where everyone knows their name.

This isn't your typical front desk job, and it isn't your typical lead role either. As Lounge Lead, you're the operational and cultural leader of the lounge. You'll set the tone for every guest's experience, coach the lounge team, run the bar, and drive the business through membership sales, relationship building and outstanding hospitality. You lead by example: strong personal sales, a spotless lounge, and a team that wins together.

These are the requirements for this position:

  • You're a good person
  • We live by our Core Principles. The first one is Do The Right Thing. It's simple but it weeds out jerks. We don't want jerks and neither should you. If you're a jerk, don't apply.
  • You LOVE meeting, talking to, and connecting with people
  • Your whole day is about people. The more you make clients feel special, have awesome interactions with them, make them laugh... the better you and your team will do.
  • You enjoy sales, especially when the sale saves the client money and truly makes sense
  • We are membership based and we are proud of it. Our membership is a phenomenal deal. Part of your job is explaining that to people consistently, and coaching your team to do the same.
  • You can lead a team
  • You'll train, coach, and hold the lounge team accountable on membership conversations, prebooking, and hospitality. You set the standard, and people follow your example.
  • You can work a computer better than your parents
  • We have a POS system (Revel). We book appointments. We sell stuff. We track inventory. If opening the browser requires you to ask for help, this isn't a great fit.
  • You can run the bar
  • You'll keep the lounge and bar clean and inviting, order supplies weekly, manage bar inventory, and make sure liquor laws are followed, including ID verification and responsible service. You don't need bar experience but you do need to be organized. We can teach you the rest!
  • You want to work in an upscale environment
  • This is not the place to wear pajama bottoms to work. We deal with successful and awesome clients. Our team is also successful and awesome. There is no room for sloppiness, laziness, or showing up to work in last night's dirty clothes.
  • You want to grow personally
  • Not every person at Scissors & Scotch is going to be with the company for life. However, our goal is to give you meaningful training, expose you to incredible people, and help you leave far more skilled and marketable for wherever life takes you. That said, if you want to stay forever... we'd love that too!
  • You like winning
  • This is not a job mindlessly cutting chicken in the back of a restaurant. Our belief is that only successful businesses can provide meaningful growth opportunities for their people. As a result, we set goals, celebrate wins, and enjoy working towards something. No airpods, no hiding in the back of house.

What You'll Own as Lounge Lead

  • Driving membership sales and prebooking through confident, knowledgeable client conversations, and coaching your team to do the same
  • Delivering a professional, welcoming experience for every guest from arrival through departure
  • Keeping the lounge and bar clean, stocked, and inviting: weekly supply orders, bar inventory, and monthly physical counts
  • Ensuring liquor compliance and responsible service
  • Monitoring lounge performance metrics and reporting to leadership
  • Planning lounge events and activations (at least two per month)
  • Completing daily checklists, nightly bank deposits, and required reporting
  • Leading by example and upholding the S&S culture in everything you do

Ideal Experience

Experience in one or more of the following is preferred:

  • Membership sales
  • Team lead or supervisory experience
  • Boutique fitness (Orangetheory, Club Pilates, StretchLab, Perspire etc.)
  • Amazing Lash, European Wax Center, Massage Envy, tanning salons, or similar membership-based businesses
  • Luxury hospitality or concierge
  • Bartending or bar management
  • Retail sales
  • Customer service

Benefits

  • Competitive pay
  • Flexible scheduling
  • Paid Time Off
  • Health, Dental & Vision Benefits
  • Career advancement opportunities
  • Closed on major holidays

Pay

  • $22.50 hour
  • Monthly performance bonuses up to $300-700 per month based on shop membership conversion
  • Performance-based pay increases every 6 months

Schedule note: This is a full-time, 40-hour role including peak hours and at least one weekend day.
