Job description

The Position: The Head Athletic Trainer is directly responsible for the overall administration, coordination, and day-to-day sports medicine operations for NCFC Youth.
Essential Functions: Reporting to the Director of Administration, the Head Athletic Trainer manages the day-to-day health care of NCFC Youth players and supervises additional Certified Athletics Trainers on staff. The role also maintains player medical records and insurance documentation, manages training room supplies and safety compliance, supervises assigned trainers and interns, and serves as the on-site authority for severe weather decisions at all venues.
Medical Care & Athlete Health
  • Serve as Certified Athletic Trainer managing athlete health care, including first aid and emergency care, on-site injury evaluation, application of appropriate modalities, development and delivery of rehabilitation and injury-prevention programs, and medical referrals.
  • Determine player return-to-play status based on recommendations from the team physician and physical therapist.
  • Manage a committee tasked with monitoring environmental conditions and determining when cancelling all NCFC Youth activities is appropriate.
  • Coordinate or host CPR certification courses through American Red Cross or American Heart Association for NCFC Youth staff.

Coordination & Communication
  • Work daily with designated coaches and provide weekly updates on player status.
  • Attend weekly and quarterly staff meetings.

Records & Administration
  • Maintain player medical records and share medical information with the appropriate physician.
  • Guide families through the process of filing insurance claims for injuries.
  • Order, maintain, and inventory medical supplies and clinical equipment.

Facilities & Compliance
  • Keep the training room and clinic area clean, organized, and safe.
  • Comply with OSHA bloodborne pathogen standards.

Supervision & Outreach
  • Supervise and schedule athletic trainers, fellowship trainers, interns, and volunteers as applicable.
  • Participate on a limited basis in community service and educational programs related to sports medicine.
  • Mandatory reporter of abuse. Must report all suspected abuse within 24 hours using the Player Safeguarding Portal.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Competencies:
  • Preferred Master's degree in Sports Medicine or related health care field. Experience in lieu of degree (minimum 2-4 years) and a Bachelor's degree will be considered.
  • Certified Athletic Trainer, NATA and in good standing with NATA
  • Current or eligible for CPR instructor certification
  • Current or eligible for North Carolina State Athletic Training Licensure
  • Current NC Driver's License
  • Personal Liability Insurance

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite programs,

  • Ability to multi-task, ability to keep open items list,
  • Ability to communicate professionally both verbally and written,
  • Must maintain professionalism in all manners while remaining flexible, yet dependable.

Job Type Requirements:
  • Full time; salaried position.
  • Typical work hours are 12pm - 8pm, but it is expected that this individual will work as needed and put in extra hours inside and outside the office to fulfill all job requirements.
  • Must have ability to work long, flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Work Environment/Travel/Physical Demands:
  • The Head Athletic Trainer position requires the following abilities: maintain oneself in both office and outdoor environments at least 50% of the time; occasionally move inside the office to access office equipment, etc.; may occasionally stoop, kneel or crouch; Need to be able to stand for long periods of time; Must be able to run to respond to incidents on a moment's notice; communicates to persons within and outside the organization; frequently lifts objects of varying sizes and weights, some weighing at least 30 pounds; Athletic Trainer is likely to come in contact with blood and body fluids. Travel with teams several times during the season.
