Job description

This position is eligible for remote work within the United States. The posted salary range reflects the compensation established under the organization's compensation structure for positions based in Silver Spring, Maryland. SUMMARY

The Legacy Giving Officer will be responsible for directing, planning, and organizing the administration of ADRAโ€™s planned giving program. They will be involved in a full range of donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship duties, including working with other team members to integrate planned giving as a critical component of the Growth Marketing and Philanthropy unitโ€™s strategic fundraising plan.

PRE-REQUISITES

Required

ยท Relevant undergraduate degree in business, accounting, finance, public relations, communications, marketing, or a related field of study.

โ€ข A minimum of five years experience as a planned gifts or trust officer in a non-profit organization, or equivalent experience.

โ€ข A proven track record in closing planned gifts.

โ€ข Exceptional communications skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in diverse communities.

Preferred

ยท North American Division of Seventh-day Adventists Planned Giving and Trust Services Certification.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Functional Responsibilities

ยท Support a comprehensive planned giving program, including bequests, trusts, appreciated stock, IRA distributions, beneficiary donations, and charitable gift annuities. Works with Director of Philanthropy to ensure program remains part of an integrated plan within the overall development efforts.

ยท Identify, cultivate, and solicit gifts from planned gift donors and prospects within the Legacy Giving Directorโ€™s portfolio, negotiate agreements with potential donors, and close planned/deferred gifts.

ยท Meet with planned giving prospects and their advisors, prepare financial illustrations of proposed gifts, and draft gift agreements for review by prospects and their advisors.

ยท Work with ADRA staff and other ADRA stakeholders orchestrate the cultivation and solicitation of donor prospects.

ยท Maintain sufficient records, contact reports, and background data to facilitate periodic evaluation of ADRAโ€™s programs and impact. Communicate with planned giving donors through regular interactions and stewardship programs.

ยท Support ADRAโ€™s legacy giving program in harmony with ADRAโ€™s overall marketing program, including print advertising, annual reports, brochures, direct mail, emails, presentations, and other strategies designed to motivate donors to provide support for ADRA programs.

ยท Maintain a current North American Division of SDA Planned Giving and Trust Services (PGTS) organizational accreditation and personal certification, as well as keep abreast of current tax laws changes that pertain to charitable giving solicitation and administration.

ยท In coordination with ADRAโ€™s Major Gifts Officer, identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward those legacy giving donors and prospects within the Legacy Giving portfolio who have a concurrent interest and capacity to make a legacy gift.
