The Wooten Company's Columbia, SC office is seeking a team-focused, innovative Site Civil Practice Manager with strong site design background to join and lead our Civil Site Team. 


Who are you? The ideal candidate is a highly motivated civil or environmental engineer (PE) with a seasoned depth of experience successfully completing design and permitting for site development projects that include components of grading, drainage, stormwater management and erosion control, water and sewer, for both local government and private clients. You have been a licensed Professional Engineer for at least 8 years. You are responsible, foster teamwork and communicate well with people of varying backgrounds and experiences. You are eager to learn and motivated to grow professionally in your field.


What will you be doing? Candidates can expect to work with a variety of stakeholders including land developers, project owners, consultants and permitting agencies to grow the firm's presence in South Carolina. You will be committed to managing the practice (a team of 4-6) while implementing strategies that increase our client base through business development efforts, increase financial metrics, maintain high productivity and profitability, and promote teamwork within a positive environment. The person in this role can make a significant community impact by supporting our clients as they work to create an exciting array of projects such as commercial office/retail developments, multi-family developments, residential subdivisions, downtown renovations, parks, and innovative stormwater solutions, along with water and sanitary sewer projects. Candidates can expect to be continually challenged to manage design projects that develop solutions to meet our client's needs, using the right mix of advanced technology and historically successful measures, while working within the financial boundaries of the project stakeholders. 


Who will you be working with? In addition to managing your Practice, the Site Civil Practice Manager can expect cross-functional collaboration across all teams and specialties, providing an opportunity to interact with The Wooten Company colleagues in both North and South Carolina, including our Site Civil teams in other offices. Additionally, this person will work with local government and private clients, as well as local and state agencies. For the right person with a desire to grow professionally, this role is a good opportunity to develop both depth and breadth in civil engineering expertise while contributing to Wooten's expanding presence, in both the North and South Carolina regions. 


Where will you be working? This position is in our Columbia, SC office. Conveniently nestled downtown on Gervais Street, the local area is filled with restaurants and nightlife, unique shops, art galleries and studios, and convenient apartments and condominium living. The Wooten Company also has five other offices located in Raleigh, Wilmington, Winston-Salem, Greenville, and Hickory, NC. Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • B.S. in Civil or Environmental Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience as a Professional Engineer (PE) in a consulting engineering environment
  • SC Licensed Professional Engineer
  • Minimum 3 years of project management experience
  • Previous supervisory and management experience (preferred)
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (365) applications (Outlook, Excel, Word) and knowledge of AutoCAD - Civil 3D 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Excellent project management and client interaction skills
  • Experience in local government design, permitting, bidding, and construction administration/observation.
  • Strong technical skills in site/ roadway layout, grading, drainage, stormwater management, utility, and erosion control design
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and train employees to reach the common goals of the practice, office, and company. 
  • Ability to travel within a 2-3-hour radius, as required. 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Take an active role in the preparation of client proposals including development of work, schedules, fees, and overall content. 
  • Supervise, monitor, and maintain effective client liaisons and relationships; serve as the primary client contact for site civil clients in South Carolina. 
  • Routinely network in South Carolina to increase our presence in the region. 
  • Serve as Senior Project Manager with the ability to set and track budgets and schedules, conduct project meetings, monitor and pursue accounts receivables, and prepare project invoices. 
  • Direct and provide technical assistance and oversight for due diligence, conceptual plan development, design computations, construction plans, local permitting, preliminary cost opinions, advertisement and bidding (if public), and client meetings. 
  • Direct and supervise staff activities within the practice include hires, terminations, mentorship, performance reviews, and conflict resolution. 
  • Oversee the daily operations of the office, as necessary, including office purchases, parking information, etc.
